Former Resident: Menands is a sleepy neighborhood outside of Albany, NY. It features little eateries such Ted's Fish Fry off the main strip of Broadway, Gus Hotdogs just further down and Burger King across from the apartments of Village one. Drug store include the Wal-Greens at 444 Broadway. Its a quite place there is a few gas stations. There is like one fire stations, 1 train station, and few doctors offices. Its quite overall, peaceful, and the crime is low. The water quality is great, the air quality is the same, pollution is low and light pollution is about average for a city of about 50,000 with a surrounding metropolis. Winters are Cold but plowing is done quickly, however some areas are not done because of budgets. Schools are plowed quickly and constantly. During Riots Fireworks were shot off for 3 weeks.... Current Resident: I grew up and went to school in Averill Park. Now, I am in college, so I am not around as much, but I still visit during breaks and such. To summarize, Averill Park is a small rural to suburbs towns. The community is pretty friendly. In the town of Averill Park itself, there isn't much to do, but it is close to plenty of things. It's beautiful during the fall time. Not very much diversity, majority of residents are middle class white folks. Current Resident: I lived in a small town about 30 minutes east of Cohoes my whole life and moved here to be close to conveniences and still lots of nature. Man did this place exceed my expectations. Tons of great food and shopping only a 10-15 minutes drive away, and downtown Cohoes is a super cute place to walk around and explore any time of year. The abundance of trails and parks, the beauty of Cohoes falls and Peebles Island, the awesome community. Tons of summer local events, and I was blown away with how friendly everyone is here. A lot of people walking by actually say hello which is rare in NY. People are pretty open minded and also keep to themselves here, not uptight or arrogant like people in Clifton Park, Colonie, Saratoga, etc. I'm only moving from Cohoes because I've lived in the area for 24 years and need a change, but I'd gladly return to Cohoes someday in the future and maybe buy a house here.
