Current Resident: Highland Park is a hidden gem in Central NJ that I kind of hope never gets fully discovered. It is an old town with tree lined streets and historic homes and two enormous parks at either end. It is very walkable and has an urban neighborhood type of feel with the houses somewhat close together and a mix of apartments. The main st (Raritan Ave) is lined with shops, a few awesome local spots but it could use more restaurants - though you can walk 15 min over the bridge to New Brunswick for all kinds of restaurants, nightlife and the train. And the best part about Highland Park is the people! The university being here means your neighbors are literally from all over the world and most are very friendly and welcoming. Almost everything is within walking distance, so a car isn't necessary to have (although it can be useful). Walmart is 5 minutes drive , there are gyms close by, new restaurants, a beautiful Park (hudson park) that offers a nice and challenging run or work out with ample space and tennis court. Alot professionals people mixed with college students going to rutgers etc... Its 15 minutes away to Newark Airport... Its a beautiful town... Located just outside of New York City and providing access to many other close areas of interest, Fort Lee is busy and always interesting. My favorite aspects of living in Fort Lee are the food and how close-knit and kind the community is. Home to some of my favorite eating establishments, Fort Lee offers amazing cuisine from many different cultures and walks of life. However, I would say that the only negative part of living in this are is the traffic. Current Resident: I absolutely love my home town! Cliffside Park is so small but has everything one could ever need. It has great restaurants, fantastic schools, responsive police and many more things. My favorite event that occurs in my town is during the winter. In the winter there is always a little Christmas festival in which honor students from the high school dress up into characters and take pictures with the kids in the town. The town also lights up every tree in the town center which makes it feel even more magical. Not to mention there is always great hot chocolate and food trucks! It is also super rare to hear that there’s crime going on in town since everyone is very close to one another and we all have each other’s back. Current Resident: My overall experience in East Rutherford has been out of this world. I moved here 4 years ago to start a new life as a high school student. Coming from a poor neighborhood East Rutherford was like heaven. I have never seen such a community so caring, friendly, and clean. Neighbors help one another when needed and it's unlike my other town. The school districts provide transportation needs to those who cannot find a ride to school. There are tons of busses willing to pick up your child to get them to school safely. In this clean community, crime rates are extremely low and police keep the town extremely safe. Also, the high school I attend currently has truly shown me the "High School Musical" experience I was searching for. I was involved in many clubs like Student Council, Paw, Girls Helping Girls, Multicultural, Key Club, and many more. With the help from my teachers, I am passing with a 3.7 GPA. As long as you're careful and expect other people to be awful drivers, you'll be fine. The West End is the place to go at night-- It's lively and full of bars --although the East End also has its fair share of restaurants. The majority of people that live here are nice and sociable, and the weather is great. It doesn't usually get past 90s in the summer and I've never seen the thermometer drop into the negatives.
