Current Resident: I enjoy living in mission, Kansas because I have a lot of resources at my finger tips. Within the time frame of five minutes, depending on what I want to do, I am able to go grocery shopping, post office, or eat out at the wonderful local restaurants. This of course is a great time saver to of set my commute to school, which takes me anywhere between forty-five to an hour depending on traffic, overall this takes two and a half to three hours of my day which I could have spent studying or doing something else useful. Therefore living in mission is a great thing because for everything else besides school usually doesn't take any time away from my day. Another great reason why I like living in Mission is because there are wonderful parks to go for walks at. Current Resident: We recently moved to Roeland Park and have been very impressed with the kindness. There are not many places to eat, other than fast food. It would be nice to have resteraunts. Current Resident: Easy access to the highway. Midway between downtown and south Kansas City, close to everything the metro has to offer without a long drive/commute. Nice parks, lots of parks of various sizes and styles. Great city services. Merriam covers a small area so response time for police and fire department is quick. Good, solid schools. Lots of shopping and dining choices. Big yards. Established trees. Community swimming pool. IKEA! Merriam is tucked in between the bigger cities of Overland Park and Shawnee so you also get the convenience and opportunities afforded in those cities, without having to live there.... Former Resident: My family and I lived in a townhouse in Overland Park for three years. It was a great area! Lots to do - shopping, theatres, dinning, parks, bowling, IFly, etc. Great libraries. Appreciated the diversity of the area as we are a mixed race family - didn't experience any racism here. Lots of employers in this area with decent wages. A variety of housing costs - definitely getting more expensive but you still get a pretty good bang for your buck with basements adding to overall floorspace. The roads and parking lots are spacious so I didn't experience too much driving anxiety. The Overland Park school system is nice but they put a lot of pressure on fundraising. Don't miss their annual Carnival - So fun! Watching the news is concerning due to lots of crime in the Kansas City area - we lived in the safer side of town but the lower income areas have a problem with thefts. Current Resident: I am used to living in a more rural area but I have definitely enjoyed my experience living in Shawnee. The schools are amazing and there are tons of opportunities. This is certainly a family friendly community and it is a great place to live. Most of Shawnee is middle class/upper-middle class; so affordability is occasionally an issue. Current Resident: I love Lenexa! This city is absolutely beautiful. The landscaping is pretty, grass is always mowed, very clean, you never see trash. The neighborhoods have lots of trees with some of the neatest looking homes you'll ever see. Plenty of sidewalks and just a joy to walk through. The parks and recreation are the best I have ever seen. Shawnee Mission Park is huge, 1600 acres with a 120 acre lake. The bike trails here are everywhere. They go through parks, beautiful neighborhoods, upscale business parks, it's an absolute biker and hiker paradise. The feel in Lenexa is like a smaller town yet we have tons of shopping and great restaurants. City Center is a new upscale area with apartments, farmer's market, aquatic center, library, shops, fountains, food trucks and live bands on weekends. Current Resident: Leawood is a very safe community with a slew of phenomenal and active local businesses. In typical midwest fashion, everyone here is incredibly nice and inviting. Leawood is an affluent and predominantly white community however. While I enjoyed growing up in such a great community, as I begin to gain a more diverse knowledge of Kansas and the US it is apparent the community is not as vibrant as it could be! Current Resident: Westwood, Ks is close to midtown, Westport and various other communities in the area. I work at the University of Kansas health systems which is one of the largest employers in the area and live near it. I can walk to work in 20 minutes. cute area. Current Resident: Living in North Kansas City is every bit of the meaning "home". There is plenty of businesses and entertainment, restaurants, and other things to visit. All the places you would need while living here is within five to twenty minutes of driving. As a young adult, North Kansas City has plenty for me to do that is appropriate for my age. There was much to do when I was younger as well. KC includes plenty of entertainment, restaurants, and things like parks and other recreation. The Tiffany Springs/Boardwalk, Liberty, and Gladstone areas are all close to each other, making it easier to explore and get errands done in a timely manner. I always feel safe here. This compels me to go out more by myself or with others. KC has plenty of job opportunities for people of all ages. There is a great culture here, especially come football season. Current Resident: If you live in "The Triangle" part of Fairway, you get everything. If you live elsewhere in Fairway, you basically still get everything. Everyone is just a good person here and no complaints much from them. Everywhere you go everyone is extremely friendly (even some of the seniors because lots of senior citizens live in The Triangle), and not much crime happens in this area. Minutes away wonderful locations are near such as the Plaza, some (medical for now) marijuana shops in KC Missouri, Joe's KC BBQ in KCK, among so many other places, and even the "La Jolla" of Kansas being Mission Hills. Very plentiful locations and I have nothing to complain about except the fact no mountains like Estes Parks' or beaches like La Jolla's are near because those would be magical and just would make my life much better, that way we'd REALLY get more weed for the bros like me haha ;P... Current Resident: Lansing is a great small town with vicinity to big town opportunities. I’ve been here since 2004 and there is a large military population as well as retired military population that is very supportive. In addition, the school district is great and takes the time to listen to parent concerns as well as student concerns. Current Resident: Liberty is growing! There is so much expansion in housing, apartments, jobs, and entertainment. We have the best movie theater, B & B! Shopping is somewhat limited but slowly expanding. Restaurants are everywhere featuring all types of cosines. There is something for everyone. Current Resident: Riverside has a darling small town quality just minutes from downtown KC. There is a Mid Continent Library, Quik Trip, a Sonic and several local businesses. There are several walking/biking trails, a couple awesome parks, and a very nice pool and rec center. The police presence is amazing in Riverside and helps the town feel safe. Current Resident: Living in Kansas City gave me so many more opportunities than living in Olathe did. I finally feel more accepted and the community here is great, Sumner Academy has been the best school that I have attended and the experience here is very rich. There aren't many things to do in Kansas City that attract tourists but there are enough things to do here that you could spend years here and notice new things each day. I was able to join groups, share and learn many skills and I plan to stay here. Kansas City, especially Wyandotte County is a haven for immigrants and people of color and has shaped my identity and has made me feel safe. I do want to admit that there are a few issues such as pollution and most of the people living here are not very wealthy so this area is regarded as a "povert-ridden" place and stereotypes are rampant, but it makes up for it with how many community centers there are available providing aid for families.... Niche User: I love Leavenworth! It has a beautiful downtown area, full of little shops, and a scenic river walk. The high school is large, but the class sizes are still small enough to not inhibit students' learning. The community is very involved and supportive. Leavenworth is a very small town, and that might discourage some because all big stores are at least a thirty minute drive.
