Suburb of Detroit, MI
Current Resident: Small city with long winding streets. There are big sprawling homes as well as spacious condos. Have to pay taxes to the City of Bingham Farms and Southfield Township. The people are friendly and most homes are well kept. The average home price is above average but the school district is one of the best in the State of Michigan. There is no public transportation but close enough to other cities that do have public transportation.... Read 3 reviews

Current Resident: I have basically lived here my whole life and I have loved every moment of it. I will say that the taxes are high and the houses are expensive, but the environment is wonderful, with access to parks and other services. The school system is great. The lake is great. The roads are a bit bumpy in some areas, but for the most part great. I would definitely recommend looking in this area.... Read 5 reviews

Public School•

Alum: For students looking for a small school with an accommodating curriculum, Taylor Prep is the perfect school for you. The education is very helpful, in that it builds upon the students understanding of an academic subject, rather than just testing them without consideration for their learning. The building and student body of Taylor Prep is particularly small, by which students are more likely to build personal connections with teachers and receive individualized learning. I personally had a good four years attending this school, and was able to make friends with students and teachers. However, I will say this school is new, and not as well as established in education and extracurricular activities as others. Also, it may be tougher for new students to make friends here, as once again, the student body is small. Anyone who has a problem with uniforms or wants to seriously compete in student athletics should not attend.... Read 28 reviews

Current Resident: It’s a very safe community with great education and a great location. Lots of diverse restaurants, and gorgeous houses. Grosse Pointe has many different groups of people and is very welcoming to anyone. It’s very diverse in many ways. There are many people of many different political beliefs, races, religions, and social classes. I always feel safe walking the streets at night and feel that any stranger I meet will be kind, helpful, and welcoming. There is such a small town feel, having no fast food or strip malls, but both of those things are close by. I have loved growing up here and most definitely want to come back to raise by children here.... Read 43 reviews

Current Resident: I've lived in Bloomfield Township and direct surrounding areas ever since I moved to the Detroit Metro area in 2002. I have no plans of moving anywhere else in the area. This is a great area if not the best. Great for commuting access. You will need a car, public transportation seems to have bypassed most of the area. Higher End stores, malls, restaurants, and people. Higher educated primarily with mostly professionals and retired professionals. The people are diverse yet not really economically diverse. Very safe, quiet, great for schools for children. Clean, surrounded by lakes, and golf courses.... Read 71 reviews

Current Resident: Chelsea is a small town, filled with farms and small local stores. On Friday nights, it seems like the whole population is at the football stadium cheering on the home team. Chelsea is a place where you can walk down the streets and see many faces that you know, the Jiffy Mix factory, and the town's clocktower. Chelsea takes pride in everything the town does, from the sports team to academics, and to many seasonal parades. Jeff Daniels is one of the greats from Chelsea. Jeff still has a permanent home here and owns a theater to inspire young artists. Tony Scheffler was the football hero of the town. Tony came back to his little home town to raise his family. Chelsea is a little dot on a map but now has a spotlight on Animal Planet. One of our old farms is now a barn sanctuary for farm animals in need. Chelsea is a place where you grow up in the tradition of going to the rivery football game, waving to your neighbors as you pass, and supporting and encouraging the youth.... Read 17 reviews

Current Resident: Frankenmuth has a special place in my heart. Whether it be the the "World Famous Chicken Dinner" or the world renown Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, there is always something lighting up this small town. Growing up in Frankenmuth was special, whether it was being able to volunteer in festivals as a citizen or seeing someone you know almost every time you step outside. Frankenmuth has taught me, most importantly, loyalty and gratitude. There is no questioning safety here as well, being ranked one of the safest cities, it most definitely feels that way. This town is flooded with activities for any age group. I recommend everyone to visit Frankenmuth at least once in their life time. Some go as far as to look for homes here. Current Resident: We just moved here from California in February 2021 and I really love this town. For making such a big change in geography, I feel very comfortable here. It’s definitely a more high-end town/city. The houses are well maintained, with quality architecture and beautiful landscapes. The neighborhoods are very cute, like being in a Hallmark movie. Some of the homes are amazing mansions. The town center is full of nice restaurants, classy shops, spas and salons, etc. You won’t feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere while living here. Also, the city is so close to everything! I love being able to be 5 minutes away from grocery stores, doctors and hospitals, restaurants, etc. I love walking around this town. It’s just beautiful and the atmosphere seems very safe. Yes, there are some snobby people, but I guess that’s the influence that makes it so nice! I consider this to be the La Jolla of Michigan for those who understand the reference. Minus the ocean!... Read 71 reviews

Niche User: Traverse City is an extremely friendly community with amazing scenery, activities, and people. The only aspect of Traverse City that prevents me from giving it a perfect score is its lack of diversity. I've found that many people fail to understand the huge problems facing many minority groups simply because there are few minorities in the area we live in. I've found that this has created an ignorance to problems that are not experienced within our own community.... Read 6 reviews

Former Resident: I was born here and moved out but my entire family lives here still except my brother. It’s small town Midwest but it actually has a fair bit to do, and if you get bored Chicago is a day trip. The lake is nice and there are a few decent beaches. Having a boat makes this area best. Most folks are very normal nice people. A lot of old people live here, but it is a very good place to raise a family too. Benton harbor also has been cleaned up a bit which was the main drag on the area. The downtown st joe area has a lot of cool shops and old buildings, lots of restaurants, places to sit on the bluff and look at the lake. There actually are a fair bit of million plus dollar homes overlooking the lake up on the bluff but most other homes in the area are regular Midwest style 150-300k homes. Whirlpool is headquartered here and they provide a fair amount of high paying jobs and contribute to the private jets you see at the Benton harbor airport .... Read 38 reviews

Alum: As a former student of Rise Hybrid Private Academy, I highly recommend to anyone debating to enroll! Not only did this Academy enable me to excel both in and out of the classroom, but the students/teacher became family. Students receive an unparalleled education while still having fun! I will forever cherish my memories of AP Biology dissection labs, the field trip to Washington DC, even one on one math (which wasn’t my strong suit🤣yet it is still a major memory, proving the impact of this school and teacher!), Secret Santa during the holidays, and many more. Through this Academy, I established a foundation in advanced education as well as life skills such as communication, time management/efficiency, and work ethic. I would not be the person I am today had I not enrolled in Rise Hybrid Private Academy!... Read 10 reviews
