Neighborhood in New York City, NY
Current Resident: Having recently moved into one of the apartments on Grymes hill, i have to say that the atmosphere is incredibly friendly, with my neighbors and others who lived quite a distance from me being very open and doing their best to make me feel open to their community. Nothing is too far, as the farmers market and other fast food outlets are a short walk down the hill. All in all this is a fantastic place to live at, the property is maintained well and the apartments are always clean, plus whenever issues are reported, they are resolved in the shortest time possible... Current Resident: We recently moved here from Brooklyn. We chose West Brighton as one of the more walkable neighborhoods on Staten Island. Schools, parks, restaurants, cafes, and shops are all within a short walk. The residential streets are lined with trees and the houses are charming and relatively affordable by NYC standards, and even Staten Island standards. Clove Lakes park, Silver Lake park and Snug Harbor are all top notch. Forest Ave has some of the best restaurants on the Island. Our neighbors are really friendly and welcoming. Commute has a few options - there are express buses that take you directly to Manhattan, or its a 15 min local bus or bike ride to the ferry. All in all we're very happy with our new neighborhood! I think it strikes a nice balance between suburban livability and urban convenience.... Read 13 reviews

Current Resident: I love Richmondtown! I have lived here my whole life and went to school here as well. It is a great neighborhood to settle down and raise your family. Former Resident: I grew up on Staten Island, so my experience is very close to my heart. My neighborhood on the North Shore was very family oriented and friendly, with amazing restaurants and stores. I have fond memories of walking around the lakes and trails of the parks. I attended a private and a public school, both systems being well run and offering many opportunities. School trips were always the best, visiting the museums and Broadway theaters. Being a part of the city, there is a multitude of commuting options available. I have used every possible mode of transportation available, though, in past years, public transit was not the most comfortable. The safety and comfort of living in the city have also decreased over the years, but out of the Five Boroughs, I'd say Staten Island is the safest. So if you want to be away from the bustling city, but still wish to be a short walk away from the store and bus stop, I highly recommend Staten Island.... Read 417 reviews

Current Resident: A diverse group of people from all over the world. It's quiet, but there's just enough noise to remind you that you are still in New York City. Lots of buses serve this area and they are a 15-minute ride from the ferry. If you want to cross the Verrazzano Bridge with a car, it should take you around 5 minutes to get to the bridge entrance. Silver Lake Park is very beautiful and has a rich history. It is very accessible since it sits right in the middle of the neighborhood. Long paths and tall slopes and a pretty lake make it the perfect place for a weekend bike ride. Houses range in size and property area but they are nicest around the corner of Oxford Place and Victory Blvd. Every now and again you get an exception. You won't find that many apartments around here but there are plenty of single-family and double-family homes.... Read 25 reviews

Current Resident: I grew up in Eltingville and live here part time. I also have another home I split my time in. I attended P.S. 42, Bernstein Intermediate School and Tottenville H.S. My house is near the Eltingville train station in the heart of Eltingville town. Eltingville is on the south shore and you are close to the shoreline here. P.S. 42 is one of the best elementary schools on the south shore in my opinion. We also have express bus service to NYC as well as the S.I.R.T train to the S.I. Ferry. There are many stores close by and you are close to NJ shore via the Outerbridge crossing.... Read 25 reviews

Current Resident: Honestly, the inflation and pandering toward tourists kind of makes my skin crawl.
