Neighborhood in Arlington, VA
Current Resident: Arlington Virginia is simply the best of the best in the entire Washington DC area, and well beyond the DC area in my opinion. First and perhaps foremost, the city was designed with the metro stops in mind. Getting anywhere on public transportation is incredibly easy. In these clusters around each and every metro stop, you will find wonderful places to eat, housing, excellent places of employment and great shopping. There are parks galore and everyone seems to be enjoying where they live. The vibe is one of a vibrant city where there is lots to do. There is a reason that Arlington is considered the most desirable place to live in the area. Arlington, along with Alexandria, are the only two areas around Washington DC that feel like real cities; so much more than just bedroom communities that you find on the other side of the river. All this plus incredible history and only five minutes to all the attractions in Washington DC.... Read 1 review

Current Resident: Probably the best area within the Rosslyn to Ballston city corridor if you are a professional in your 30s (you might feel "old" at Courthouse). You will see some seniors as well, and more kids in this area - a nice mix. Extremily safe, and yes, there are what appears to be maybe 2-3 homeless people on any given day near each meteo, but I don't recall seeing anyone sleeping on the streets, and I've seen far more inroxicated 20 somethings in Clarendon on a Saturday night than I have any other population. It's a fun spirited area, and VA Square is just down the road, but Ballston has like 3 or 4 Starbucks so I'm good. The Ballston Quarter also turned out nice, but I've only gone to the theatre and Macy's, have not yet visited all the attractions.... Read 9 reviews

Former Resident: After living in midtown Manhattan for ten years, we lived in the Belvedere Condominium for five years on Oak Street. If you are making $175K + this is a decent place to live, but not a lot to do at night, but you can Uber to Georgetown or Old Town. There are only a few good restaurants within walking distance but being near the Metro, Safeway, and Target is great. There was a mugging on Oak and I saw a car vandalized - both of which happen in NYC, so rather surprised that the safety rating is so high. The Belvedere is not anything like a Manhattan doorman building (staff is arrogant & rude) but it covered all the amenities we needed: David’s small store/dry cleaners in the building, parking, pool/gym. If you want to get home quickly after work/near DCA this is your location. Getting a job here is extremely difficult for professional women over 45, so it was time for us to go when I hit my expiration date. Neighbors are nice, but expect artificially inflated egos for no reason at all.... Read 2 reviews

Parent: St. John's Episcopal School focuses on high academic standards but also creates a safe and loving environment for all children. My children have been attending for several years now and has have been attending St. John's since Preschool. They enjoy going to school. The faculty and staff are wonderful, and the leadership makes this school exceptional. St. John's implements technology so learning is actually fun. Students use Chromebooks, enjoy a STEM class, and have a media technology class. At the same time, children also learn traditional values, they still learn to write in cursive and learn their multiplication table. They are taught to love their neighbors through service projects and other community activities. St. John's also has a new playground and a sports field where children can play during recess. This school is truly an Incredible school, and I highly recommend it!... Read 19 reviews

Current Resident: I love the weather, the lakes, the flowers and gardens, its pristine and manicured. Great restaurants a and places to play. Amazing schools, awesome weather. Transplant from Seattle. It's so much better here than there. Lots of water here. Gorgeous. Lots of paths to walk on, parks to use. Shopping here is a breeze. Gorgeous shopping. Ponds, fish. Access to tons of jobs. Diverse, more of a richer area. Easy access to the freeways. International airport is not far. The gorgeous white sands at Virginia beach and otter banks are just right there. I'd say maybe 2 hours away drive tops. The costs of housing is more affordable here than Seattle that is for sure.... Read 4 reviews

Current Resident: I Have lived in Stone Ridge for the past 3 years and it's a great place to raise a family and live without worry. There is a lot of growth and progress and many professionals that love living in the area. The trip to DC is not too bad as you have the Dulles toll road, routes 50 and 66. There is a bit of traffic but it's worth the travel. Stone Ridge safety is amazing and very happy to live here!... Read 22 reviews

Former Resident: I lived in Bluemont between 1985 and 2007. I walked to Ballston Metro station and rode in to DC for work. I liked being nearby to parks, a swim club and local stores. It’s the best mix of DC/ Arlington living with a newly rising restaurant scene, solid quality of life, a short walk from Georgetown and running trails on the Potomac. Current Resident: I have lived here all my life. Granted, that is not a very long time in the grand scheme of things. However, I do not believe I would have wanted to live anywhere else. This town is so welcoming. The high school is phenomenal, and the community is so loving. There are so many places to have fun, as well. I love to go to Cascades Overlook with my friends, even if the restaurants are closed, we love the atmosphere of that area and feel safe there. This town is very family friendly. There are so many different types of living areas such as traditional family houses, townhouses, and apartments. In every neighborhood I have seen in this area there is a nice park or playground nearby. I love being so close to Algonkian park. It is a staple when visiting this area. I bring friends from outside the area to the river. It is so nice to be so close to such an amazing regional park. I am so grateful to have lived here all my life and would not want it any other way.... Read 14 reviews

Current Resident: I've lived in Arlington all my life, I went to elementary, middle, and high school here. I love that Arlington is a very safe neighborhood statewide. I've traveled to many other counties and cities in the US, nothing beats it. I'd most likely raise my children in Arlington, VA. Being 15 minutes from the nation's capital and 20 minutes from Maryland is a flex lol! The only downside is that Arlington is solely but surely kicking out minorities by gentrifying all of South Arlington (where I grew up and where my parents own a condo).... Read 268 reviews

Current Resident: Franklin Farm is an amazing place to raise a family. Our children are constantly outside playing with other neighborhood children. There are lots of community events include ice cream socials, an egg hunt, breakfast with Santa, fall festival and food trucks! The neighborhood has 2 very nice pools (with a great swim team), lots of trails, playgrounds and ponds. The schools (Oak Hill, Franklin and Chantilly) are some of the very best! The shopping plaza has a grocery store, a few restaurants and other fun stops for kids (game store, ice cream shop) within walking distance. You can’t beat the location. Former Resident: We lived in South Riding for a time and if we ever moved back to the metro DC area we would choose South Riding again. Excellent pediatrician, close by to two hospitals and many other medical centers, great playgrounds scattered around, half of the properties on lining the South Riding golf course, two excellent daycares (Goddard and Primrose), Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and Giant to grocery shop at, excellent library close by in Stone Ridge, and good HOA. My only complaint is many of the properties are the biggest house you can get with almost no yard. Extremely diverse neighborhood, even within our little townhouse square, all neighbors were very friendly. The housing cost of this area is going up. We cannot afford the townhouse we sold a few years ago!... Read 74 reviews

Parent: Our 2-year-old has attended Merritt since she was 6 months old, and we would not dream of sending her anywhere else. Our experience has been magical. Merritt is not only her school; it is her second home. We truly feel that her teachers love and care for her as if she were their own child. The environment at Merritt is as enriching as it is loving. Even for babies and toddlers, teachers treat the experience like school--in the best sense of the word, with endless activities that are fun, creative, engaging and educational. On a practical note, the hours and holiday/weather closures at Merritt are better than any day care or school we have heard of. Merritt prides itself on serving working families, and it does. We have a somewhat unusual weekday schedule, and Merritt has accommodated us so that we can maximize time with our daughter. We send her to Merritt foremost for the loving and enriching environment, but the practical aspects have also helped us more than we can say.... Read 2 reviews
