Middleton offers a great deal of wonderful parks, trails, boating, fishing, splash pads, swimming, shopping and dining! The list is endless! As for crime, we've personally never experienced anything scary. Our particular neighborhood has always felt very safe, inclusive and welcoming. Current Resident: Verona is a perfect mix... small-town charm, but with easy access to all the amenities of a bigger city (Madison). At the same time, go a few miles in the opposite direction and you're surrounded by beautiful, rolling countryside. Very family-friendly and safe. A real sense of community, but without being overly nosy or invasive. They've packed a lot into this town... a strong performing arts center in VACT, top-notch sports facilities (Redden soccer park, ice arena, little league fields), state and national hiking trails, etc. The schools are wonderful -- sure, not without issues that would be common in just about any school district -- but compared to most public school systems, we have very little to complain about. Some decent restaurants and other local establishments (although, a little too much fast food, bar food and pizza here). Miller's Grocery Store is an absolute gem! What used to be farmland two and three decades ago has been turned into suburbs, at least for parts of Fitchburg. The city could be described quite succinctly as the gray zone where country turns to city. A few months ago our city had an online survey in which one of the questions was what area do residents consider the city center. For most communities this sort of question would never need to asked, for most communities it would be a simple answer. For Fitchburg the answer is far from straight forward. Our city is split into three different school districts. Driving five minutes down one road takes you from city buildings and bus lines to farms and fields. Current Resident: Sun Prairie is a great town for families with kids in pre-school all the way through high school. With a great school district and many activities to do around the community there is always something to experience. The close proximity to the Wisconsin state capitol also allows for many new great experiences for those of all ages. With farmers markets in the summer, concert on the square, art fair on the square, the Madison children museum, the overture center which houses many performances by both local performers and Broadway national touring shows and many other great events each year. The city of sun prairie also has performances regularly with concerts in some of the many parks around the area and a community theatre which houses 4-5 shows a year. This village feels as if everyone is one family and in a sense, everyone helps everyone. When there are fundraisers or someone in need, everyone in the community comes together to make a change and do all they can. An aspect of McFarland that I would like to see change is more opportunities for job growth and school growth. I feel that this town is very favorable and a place people want to live in. The problem is our schools cant fit any more students and sense it is a pretty small town their arent many job opportunities for big companies.
