Current Resident: I always tell people The Woodlands is not an exciting place to live, but it is a nice place to live. When people from the greater Houston area hear "The Woodlands," they think of The Woodlands Mall. This is the most popular part of town, and it is conveniently located close to the freeway. The adjacent Market Street is an upscale shopping center that looks prettiest at night. Newcomers always point out the excess greenery and ask how we locals can find anything, but I have no problem with all the trees because the town is so well-organized. There are several zoning laws that ensure business and residential areas are clearly separated. There are plenty of franchise restaurants along the town's major streets. There are local churches and well-maintained parks hidden in every neighborhood. A common complaint is that residential streets do not have sidewalks. My least favorite part about TW is that it is a comedy desert. The closest comedy club is a 35-minute drive from the edge of town.... Read 510 reviews

Current Resident: Montrose is the best place we’ve ever lived. The area we’re in is the north part of Montrose (near River Oaks Shopping Center). It’s extremely safe and we can walk to just about anything. I think overall when people talk about crime, they’re really talking the Midtown areas or the pocket right around Westheimer & Montrose (the latter having drastically improved the past couple of years). I honestly don’t understand why those who can afford it choose to move elsewhere when you’ve got so much, so close.... Read 29 reviews

Current Resident: This is an awesome neighborhood with lots of families out and about daily. The people are friendly and schools are top notch - my kids went to Horn ES, Pin Oak MS and Bellaire HS - all great schools! We love the nearby pools, doggie park, playgrounds and nature discovery center - everyone comes here for great events such as the pumpkin festival, bird watch, and kids love the little animals and discovery rooms. We enjoy kicking ball at Evelyn's Park, plus there's a cute little restaurant and outdoor seating, and weekend life music. It's all within walking distance from Bellaire's Southdale where we are. We also enjoy being so close to Whole Foods, HEB, restaurants and Meyerland shopping center.... Read 57 reviews

Current Resident: Cons: Very little diversity in any sense of the word. Including the public schools. People are often openly bigoted here, will try to push their religion onto you, and are snobby. The houses and rent are overpriced. Pros: The public schools in the area are super great, academically, and some are nationally-recognized. There are some great local restaurants here, and some great shopping areas like City Centre, Memorial Green, and Memorial City Mall. You will have close access to Memorial Hermann Hospital and medical services. There are enough sidewalks, for the most part. The neighborhoods are mostly safe, especially compared to the other neighborhoods in Houston or in other large cities. There is a lot of community engagement, too, like sports and extracurricular things that you and your kids can participate in. Also, it's a quieter neighborhood compared to other Houston neighborhoods.... Read 86 reviews

Minus the overhead airplanes and such, it’s a very scenic and green environment with plenty of parks and other natural features. Current Resident: This area is considered to be the "heart of the city." I've lived here for about 10 years (since 2009), and I love living in Greenway/Upper Kirby! My now ex-husband chose this neighborhood because it was close to where he worked. He moved here ahead of me to start work. I therefore moved here sight unseen. I couldn't have chosen a better place to live. I had spent most of my life in suburban Philadelphia before living here. I always wanted to live in the city. Urban areas in the US South are quite different than in the North. Although Greenway/Upper Kirby is definitely an urban area, it almost has a suburban feel. Yes, there's a ton of amenities--stores, restaurants, etc.--within walking distance. However, there are lots of trees and parks around, too. Because we're in the middle of Greenway Plaza, one of the city's largest commercial centers, it gets quiet at night after the offices empty. I think that what I love the most is that this neighborhood is a foodie's paradise.... Read 11 reviews

Current Resident: My experience growing up in West University has been amazing. Overall, the suburb has shown to be an incredibly safe, tightknit, and fun community. Since I moved in to the area late in to my lifetime (as a child) at 8 years old, I thought it would be difficult to assimilate and make friends with the other kids. However, I was instantly proven wrong. Since most children who lived in the area went to the local school, I quickly got comfortable, and made tons of friends - many of which lived in my neighborhood! These friends became friends I would still have today in my senior year of highschool, and I continue to remember almost every day how much West University means to me and how much it has contributed to my development.... Current Resident: The social atmosphere is highly important and due to Katy's abundant diversity, there is never such thing as a boring gathering or a party. Some of these celebrations include, International nights at schools, after game parties, Diwali, Christmas, Halloween and so many more. Katy Independent school district is one of the best in the Houston Metropolitan area, including the very famous Seven Lakes High School is ranked 3rd in the state of Texas. There are negative sides to everything in this enormous world. Katy is located west of Houston which is the 4th largest city in the U.S and could bring potential dangers. Despite Katy having one of the lowest crime rates, threats happen and induce fear among the community. Like every city, having their pros and cons, Katy's positive side definitely outshines the negative and is great place to move when one wants to start a family, get away from the city or even retire!... Current Resident: I have grown up in this town and watched it develop from a beautiful small town to something that is beginning to look like Clear Lake and Webster. City politicians have continuously allowed so much development that the town dynamic is shifting. It is not that "small town feeling", that is in Danbury, TX. Over the years property taxes have exploded on homeowners and traffic has become ridiculous. The city needs more industry sales taxes that could help lower home owners property taxes. Instead, the city continues to allow more home builders to ruin the scenery. To date there are almost no open areas, if so they are all for sale. Schools are great, most notably is Windsong staff. I cannot share enough positivity about their teachers. Standardized Ed seems to fail many kid's learning styles across the country, FISD makes the most of the situation. Considering the median income here, many kids keep their eyes and attention in their cell phones instead of playing outside.... Read 184 reviews
