Current Resident: I moved downtown about 6 months ago and I love it. Almost feels like your on vacation everyday, I guess due to living right by the casino, museum, River walk, the river tours and of course live after 5 is right out the door. I live at the Maritime One Apartments which I consider to be the best kept secret in Baton Rouge. Now I do see a lot of homeless people sleeping on the side walks and walking around. I feel bad for them really but I’m a little nervous about them. Although they have never done anything to cause me to worry... Read 1 review

Former Resident: I love it here. The people are kind and there are tons of local and chain businesses. The pubic schools in Ascension parish are top tier and some of the best in the state. My one complaint is that the city is growing, but the local and state governments don't seem to have a plan. They just keep building housing developments without planning for water drainage or traffic.... Read 107 reviews

There are plenty of fast food places and stores around, but what's even more worth being in this area are the parks and movie theaters. Current Resident: The Garden District is great! I’ve lived here for 30 years. The boundaries on this website are incorrect. The Garden District of Baton Rouge is an established neighborhood consisting of 3 subdivisions—Roselyn’s Terrace, Drehr Place, and the first filing of Kleinert Terrace whose residents banded together 45 years ago to form the District. All three subdivisions are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Garden Disttict of Baton Rouge has been designated as a “Great American Neighborhood” by the American Planning Association. There is an active civic association with frequent social events and off duty police patrols. Crime is low compared to suburban areas and there are 5 blue-ribbon schools within walking distance. If you like biking and walking and want to feel connected to your community this is the place to be!... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: Central is a beautiful town that is expanding every day. New restaurants and stores are popping up pretty frequently now, and even without that, it's a nice place. While there are not many free things to do, there are things like visiting the Frenchtown or Blackwater conservation parks. Jackson Park, a very cool playground for kids, is also a nice place to go. Even the schools have been improving, with Central Middle offering newer opportunities that could allow a kid to have college level classes by sophomore year and a newly renovated Central High. There are a few problems, such as the reluctance to fix pot holes along Sullivan and Wax Road. Besides that, though, Central is a decent place to be!... Read 24 reviews

Current Resident: I have lived in Walker, LA my entire life, I started kindergarten and am finishing high school here. I have seen a lot of changes here during my life, but the most impactful one was in 2016. Our community experienced what is now called "The Great Flood of 2016". Over 80% of our parish flooded, my home being one of them. We were rescued from over 4 feet of water at 2am by a passing rescue boat. We lost every material possession we owned. We were displaced from our home for 6 months while we rebuilt our lives. I was forever changed by that experience and it has made me realize what is important in life. During this time, people we had never met came and helped us by giving us food, clothing, and other supplies that we needed simply to get by. Our community grew stronger because of this and that is what makes me love living where I do. I think Walker is a great place to live and grow up in and I love my little town.... Read 16 reviews
