Suburb in New Jersey
Current Resident: Lots of young families moving to town looking to meet people. Very social town and lots of 30-something couples with young kids. In addition to great schools, beautiful neighborhoods, and good downtown it has a great community feel especially amongst parents. Many move here from Hoboken/Jersey City/NYC with no regrets. Also close to other great towns with good shops/restaurants like Cranford, Summit, Garwood, and more.... Read 70 reviews

Parent: The Admissions department made the application process seamless. They were easy to reach; gladly returned phone calls and inquiries; and, assisted with the application process during each step. Compared to other independent college prep institutions, RMA is a small school. However, we were thoroughly impressed with the diversity that we saw during the summer camp program; We were pleased to see that it carried over to the academic year. The curriculum is rigorous. The staff is caring. There are a variety of extracurricular activities that are day and boarding inclusive. Any family "on the fence" about RMA should definitely consider a second look, or reach out to staff. You'll be glad you did!... Read 167 reviews

Quality of life here is very high due to the proximity to NYC, excellent public and private schools, world class shopping, several restaurants and small businesses. Current Resident: Fanwood, New Jersey is a fascinating little suburb in the middle, or central part of New Jersey. It is a nice town to live in if you are thinking of starting a family, and make a moderate or higher income. It is a good town for commuters because there is a train station in the center of the town, and many bus lines. It shares a school district with the neighboring town, Scotch Plains. There are also many nighttime, and fun activities in the neighboring towns, no more then 10 minutes away. The real estate prices are higher, and so are the taxes, but it is a very safe and suburban town and good for the price.... Read 13 reviews

Former Resident: I moved to SP in the late 90's and raised my daughters here. Excellent school system with many great, dedicated teachers. As a former spec ed teacher myself I can account for this! Nice community which seems tight knit and good for raising a family. I loved the reservation nearby to bring my dog for walks. The downsides: Not very culturally diverse, an obvious difference between housing in the north and south sides which also commensurates with crime in areas. A main street that is about 3 blocks long with some shops, banks, and restaurants. Taxes are growing each year in this town, and housing costs are astronomical. Which is why I moved out if state and am now living in a college town two states away, where it's more affordable. We have reservations here too, and not the traffic associated with NJ, not the taxes. Scotch Plains us nice, but I needed more in terms of culture, shops, restaurants, museums, and so on.... Current Resident: I lived in Roselle Park for over 4 yrs now and my experience so far has been great. Most of my neighbors are friendly. I say mostly because my next door neighbor appeared to be disappointed that a black family moved next door to them but I think once they realized I up kept my property they became a little more friendly. It’s a small town so you mostly run in to some one you know in the park, store or on school property while waiting for your little ones. The houses in the neighborhood for the most part looks decent but some of the 2 family houses are starting to look like Newark. I love the diversity in this town. It appears though Roselle Park is experiencing “white flight”. The town has good programs for the children. The schools are good. There has been an uptick in theft but overall I feel safe here. Transportation is excellent because it’s close to bus, train, airport and major highways. Needs more restaurants though and should reopen the movie theatre on Westfield Ave.... Read 51 reviews

Current Resident: Clark is a very safe and tight knit community in the sprawling New York Metropolitan Area. There are many cities in the metropolitan area where pollution, crime, and schools are bad but Clark is the opposite. It is a nice quiet suburb where neighbors are nice to everyone. Of course that no town in America is perfect and in Clark there is a lack of a downtown area and not a lot of sprawling development excluding home development. Surprising to hear but in New Jersey the roads are not bad at all as there are only a couple of streets where the streets are full of potholes. In the nighttime and the morning there are people jogging or walking their dogs and just makes you feel nice and comfortable.... Read 33 reviews

Current Resident: I have been a resident of Union, New Jersey ever since I was an infant. The environment here is so uplifting and positive. Union Center is the focal point of the town which features numerous shops and restaurants. This area is the perfect place to spend your weekend because there are several activities you can experience. For instance, since Union is incredibly diverse, the restaurants range from all types of foods you could think to taste. Additionally, you can go thrift shopping, go to the salon, or even see a movie at the theater! There is also a small playground with a peaceful library that one could visit if looking for some quiet time. Current Resident: I like living in Rahway because I find it to be very diverse. I really like the High School because of the staff. The guidance counselors are very helpful, especially with college help and advice. I would consider myself to be a student that has a lot to juggle from being enrolled in rigorous AP courses to having to balance extracurriculars and the pressure of being Class President. However, Rahway itself offers many activities and locations such as the Melaos coffee shop downtown to wind down in a calming environment. Also, located downtown is The Waiting Room which turns into the perfect place to let loose and have fun with friends as it turns into a fun party scene on some nights.... Read 77 reviews

Current Resident: I live here 14 out of my 14 years of living. It's pretty nice out here. Everyone is a bit quiet but thats's ok because they're friendly. Schools are easy to adapt if you start in Roselle from elementary, but it's a bit hard for new students to adapt because schools are pretty rough in Roselle, especially ACHS, the infamous high school. That is why it is always best to apply to other high schools before going to 9th grade. The best school is definately the middle school, LV Moore. Teachers and stufents are very awesome, as well as the structure of the building. It gets maintained clean and it's easy to locate yourself and find where your classes are. So to sum it up, Roselle is pretty cool.... Read 75 reviews

Current Resident: My wife and I moved to Plainfield from a neighboring Town ten years and yet whenever I tell people where I live now, they look at me like I'm from another planet. It's unfair but I think Plainfield gets a bad rap because of the riots that took place in both Newark and Plainfield, but let's get real people, those riots happened over 50 years ago. Families started moving out of the Town in 1967 when these riots occurred and real estate values dropped. The problem is that those people who moved out of Plainfield, left their very beautiful homes. My kids are grown up so I can't comment about the school system, but the folks that I know in my neighborhood, sent their kids to private schools. So if you can afford to move into a neighboring town for a smaller house, check out some areas of Plainfield for a much larger home for less money. You'll be glad you did.... Read 116 reviews

Parent: Veritas has been such a good fit for our family. Coming from a homeschooled background, we were concerned how our child would do there all day. My child looks forward to being at school everyday and especially in his classroom with his teacher. Our son feels totally safe there and had no separation anxiety. Every morning my child excitedly ran to greet the administrators at the door. He loved that he could start his day by racing them to be the first to say hello. He also loves going to memory period. He has grown so much this year. His teacher is bright, loving, fun and very patient. She takes them outside several times a day, gives them snack time and miraculously gets them to nap. It is amazing how much better his reading and social grace has gotten too. They have an excellent classical curriculum delivered in love. The teachers are very invested and the small class sizes guarantee personal attention. We also love the other parents. This family community is priceless!... Read 113 reviews
