Current Resident: Small town just south of Charlotte. Wonderful, friendly people. Lots of lush farms and tons of mansions! A true "small town" feel while still only a short drive into Charlotte. Schools are some of the best in the state and churches are on nearly every corner. Grocery stores are your typical chain stores (Publix, Harris Teeter, etc) but again have a small town feel. While it is a small town, we do still have Starbucks, Target, etc. Truly the best of small town living with some city life, within a short distance. The real estate market is CRAZY here with homes going up - and selling very quickly. Most homes are 2, 3 or sometimes 4 stories. It is a bit pricy to live here but that is due to the extremely low crime rate (have to pay the officers, well!) and excellent schools. Current Resident: Stallings is a great place to raise a family or retire. The area has grown a LOT in the ten years we’ve been here, and that has brought challenges including increased traffic, loss of trees, and a strain on the infrastructure such as roads, water, and sewer. But the local governments are good at fixing things. People are approachable but not all up in your business. The cost of living is good compared to lots of other places in the USA. A new hospital is opening soon so we won’t have to travel to Matthews, Pineville or Charlotte. There are lots of grocery stores and plenty of basic food options and basic shops. It is not Charlotte and doesn’t want to be. You won’t like it if you seek fancy restaurants, shops, or nightlife. We feel safe living here and even though there are more interesting and prettier places to live, this is a good compromise, schools are above average, and Charlotte is just a short drive away. Current Resident: What i do enjoy mostly about Wingate, it's a small town. It's easy to get around, mind you, when college is in session it's gets a little harder to move. You have fast food restaurants such as Burger King, Mcdonald's, Great China, and Tokyo Bistro. You do have good food options when it comes to this town. As far as the night life, there's none. If you're a family person and you're big on raising a family, Wingate is a great option. We do have a nice park that hosts two baseball fields and another field used for soccer and recreational activities. One thing I would change in this town not changing anything. Former Resident: Think of it as the safer Monroe. First off, Unionville's elementary-level public schooling is second to none. In Unionville, you definitely aren't smarter than a fifth-grader. The advanced programs actively stimulate children's brains and craft them into superior intellectuals. Most, if not all of the teachers are charismatic novices. They even have a chess club, but don't expect to win. The layout of the area is memorable and easily digestible for those new to Unionville. Not to mention that the economy is off the charts! Everywhere you turn, you can find an even dispersal of gas stations, shops, stores, attractions, convenience stores, parks, neighborhoods, & banks. Along with housing several North Carolina exclusive commodities such as Cheerwine and QuikTrip convenience stores, Unionville is the perfect distance from anything and everything important. Current Resident: I love the city I've grown up in, specifically the small town of Unionville. If I could say anything about Unionville, I would say raise your kids here! The hospitality and small town feel, in my experience, while growing up is like no other. Unionville Elementary is also no doubt the best elementary school EVER! I loved my schooling experience and never would've wanted to live anywhere other than in Unionville. Current Resident: I've lived in Fairview my whole life and have loved it! My home is very secluded and quiet but with only a 20 minute drive, there is the lovely city of Asheville. The public schools in the area are wonderful (speaking from personal experience) and include grades K-12. It's nice to have a great, busy city to visit and still have a quiet town to return to everyday. Fairview is the perfect town for someone who likes to enjoy a city life while also having their own private home to return to! With only a few grocery stores in the area there isn't a lot of nightlife and I very rarely see any law enforcement patrolling. There's a fire department in the center of town that has been a huge help to the community. The population in the area has definitely grown within the past couple years and I don't blame anyone who wants to move into a quiet town life Fairview.... Read 13 reviews
