Current Resident: The best kept secret in North Carolina, Elkin has great schools, medical facilities, a pedestrian friendly historic downtown with a newly renovated live music venue in a historic theater, beautiful trails and parks, has 5 wineries and 2 microbreweries, lots of places to eat, has a great farmers market every Saturday morning during warm months and supports local farmers, lots of community pride and is very safe. I have no idea where they got their crime stats from, but they are definitely wrong. This a great place to raise a family or retire.... Read 18 reviews

Current Resident: Wonderful area with plenty to do. If you love nature, you are going to love Flat Rock, North Carolina. There are so many rocks and trees everywhere! Every single one is unique! But, I suppose if you are not a geologist or treeologist, you might not like those aspects as much. However, there is plenty more to offer! The amount of restaurants in the area is staggering! Not as many as the amount of rocks, but still! Anyway, the views here are gorgeous! Mountains as far as the eye can see! And let me tell you, my eyes can see extremely far! Current Resident: Some things that I like about mount airy are that it is a small town and everyone is friendly, the school systems are very good and everyone in the school systems are very nice and helpful. The night life is upcoming here there has been a lot done to downtown mount airy they have added in more restaurants and bars for people to enjoy they are also adding some things in mount airy for children to enjoy like splash pads and better park equipment. Current Resident: It was exciting the southern hospitality and sights. It was down home feel to all the stores and there's the typical employment however the tourism for the whole Andy Griffith thing Mount Airy is the setting for TV show Mayberry and goner Pyle show. Andy Griffith's name alone has made this whole area of the state whe. People they think of simple minded but in actuality there's a lot of intelligent people here who are caring and hospitable and very business oriented. Surry county along thanks to Mayberry and Andy Griffith namesake has raised the nc economy 45% or higher this year alone in surry county. I'm proud to be living here and just having visited here. when I was young I wanted to get away from all the sickening sweet tea southerness and go adventure away from my hometown but in reality I keep getting pulled back to my roots. I guess Mayberry and Andy Griffith goes hand in hand with me and North Carolina partnering together makes mount airy a beautiful and present trendy town... Read 17 reviews
