Sumter Town in South Carolina 110 reviews
Current Resident: For a town its size, Sumter has many positive attributes: great parks, wonderful neighborhoods, and a revitalized downtown with top-notch restaurants and places for people to gather for drinks & socializing. The public schools are average, but one of the top private schools in the state, Wilson Hall, is an option for many. The cost of living is below the national average and there is a variety of housing options, from new construction in new neighborhoods to updated older homes in the historic district. Because of industry (Continental Tire, Caterpillar, etc.), the hospital, and the military base, new people from around the nation and world move to the area, providing a nice diversity. The location is ideal for many, close enough to the airport in Columbia (less than an hour) and interstates (20, 26, 77, 95) are accessible in 20-60 minutes, but far enough away to keep a small town feel that many desire.
