Suburb in New Jersey
Current Resident: I have lived in Bernardsville for 30 years and don't regret raising my children here. My youngest just graduated high school and has moved on to a great university. This is a small town, neighbors rally to help each other when needed, the location is great because you have everything you need downtown and all major highways are within a 5 minute ride. Downtown is in the process of a revitalization program which has already brought great new shops and restaurants to our downtown area and there is more to come!... Read 51 reviews

Current Resident: Bernards Township is a comfortable suburban town located in central New Jersey with a great education system and quiet lifestyle. While everything necessary is located within reasonable distance, it tends to get boring living in this town due to a lack of diverse quality food choices, as well as limited recreational facilities. Definitely a very safe town to live in, with a lot of very friendly people, good for kids and family, with access to transportation to NYC, but otherwise recreationally, there is no entertainment access.... Parent: Sending our daughter to The Craig School was the best decision we made for her education. Craig teachers have all the training and expertise to teach her in ways that address her learning disabilities. She has made tremendous progress and now loves going to school. Most of all, her confidence has grown by leaps and bounds along with her self-esteem. The Craig School is such a supportive and positive environment and all of the teachers and staff are such amazing advocates for these students who have struggled with learning, but ended up in the right place. We highly recommend The Craig School and wish we had sent our daughter there much sooner!... Read 9 reviews

Former Resident: Loved living in Bradley Gardens for 20 years, recently retired and moved to North Carolina. Raised kids here, great safe place to live the dream. Convenient to everything and lots of alternate road routes should Rt 202 have a traffic issue. It’s kind of a boring place since nothing every really happens, but that’s suburban life in most towns. Current Resident: Branchburg is a small rural and suburban town where everyone knows each other. However, as a person of color, it is not very diverse with an in the ballpark estimate of about 75-85% caucasian. Growing up it was tough because I was different, but I now observe people of all races are moving in and there is much less racism in the town. I think the public schools are great and the education system is up to par. However, we do not have our own high school and share with Somerville. It is extremely expensive to live in Branchburg, such as paying taxes, and purchasing real estate. There are not too many store complexes in Branchburg, so there is usually a 10 minute commute from wherever you are going to Bridgewater, where there are plenty of stores. Nothing is really in walking distance for the neighborhoods are quite large. However, I have to say that our town is extremely safe with little to no crimes and a police station right on the main road.... Read 23 reviews

Current Resident: Overall, very good area. The main problem with Somerset is the same as with every high population density area in NJ- sky high property taxes! Unfortunately, the population of Somerset is only increasing so the property taxes are only going to continue increasing. The only other 'complaint' that I have with the area is a minor annoyance more than anything. I'm a movie buff, and the main movie theatre in the area is Regal on Rt 1. At any given time, the majority of movies shown at this theatre are Bollywood films. A non-Bollywood film has to be a mega-blockbuster in order to make it on the list of showings. There have been critically acclaimed movies that I haven't been able to see because Regal isn't showing them anywhere on their 16 screens.... Read 62 reviews

Current Resident: Raritan, New Jersey, is a perfect town for graduate students looking to live in a quieter and more peaceful area than a traditional loud college town environment. With Rutgers University only being a 15-20 minute commute, it is an ideal location to consider if you are looking for student housing. And if you don't have a car, the town's train station can also take you straight to the campus. As for places to live, many new apartment complexes have been built, some as recently as 2019, and nearly all offer special promotions and discounts for signing leases. In addition, Raritan is rated as one of the safest neighborhoods in New Jersey. The town is also filled with great restaurants and shopping centers. The community is really friendly, and for those that like to get outdoors, there is even a beautiful large park in the town as well. I am fortunate to have found this neighborhood.... Read 16 reviews

Current Resident: I have lived in Manville for ten months and so far have had a good experience. I gave Manville a 4 out of 5 stars because though it is a safe and quiet town, it does not have anything fun or enjoyable to do around town. The Downtown area is very outdated and lacks businesses that bring in customers. I want to be prideful when I tell people where I live and not feel embarrassed because of its reputation for being a boring town. Besides that, Manville is a well-rounded town with a great school district. Manville neighbors other great towns and is only 1-hour commute distance from New York City and Philadelphia.... Parent: One of the best decisions I have ever made for my son. He was failing in public school once he was in 3rd grade. This started affecting him mentally being that he always did well in his previous grades. He became reserved and did not want to go to school. He had no friends because he could not relate with his classmates. When I sent him to St Bartholomew for his 4th grade, he had no problem fitting in. He made a lot of friends right away. The students and teachers went beyond and above to accommodate him . He started enjoying going to school and excelled in class. The teachers are hands on with their students . The best thing is that beginning of each week, every teacher post the class home work etc on the website. This enables one to prepare your child.... Read 9 reviews
