Current Resident: We moved to Shawano from Phoenix about 12 years ago. While there is definitely a charming, hometown feel to it, there are limited restaurants, shopping, entertainment and grocery stores unless you drive about 40 minutes to Green Bay. We enjoy the feeling of community and knowing the names of the people at the grocery store and drive-thrus. There are lots of fun fairs and events through the year, a great farmers market, an open-air amphitheatre for live music and some great little businesses on Main Street to enjoy. To me it feels safe, I rarely lock our doors during the day and my children, ages 3-15, have had good school experiences so far. I feel there are a lack of good employment opportunities in the immediate area, however. I also feel like if you weren't "born and raised" here yourself you'll always be a bit of an outsider, but I think that's true of most small towns.... Read 22 reviews

Works Here: Hartland is a peaceful village no more than 25 minutes from downtown Milwaukee, WI. I feel very safe in this town, and I love all of the summertime activities hosted nearby! Hartland is an amazing place to raise a family; I could absolutely see myself moving here permanently after college! Hartland truly is a wonderful place to live.... Read 14 reviews
