Current Resident: I grew up and went to school in Averill Park. Now, I am in college, so I am not around as much, but I still visit during breaks and such. To summarize, Averill Park is a small rural to suburbs towns. The community is pretty friendly. In the town of Averill Park itself, there isn't much to do, but it is close to plenty of things. It's beautiful during the fall time. Not very much diversity, majority of residents are middle class white folks. Pretty good town to grow up in, but probably not one you want to stay in for the rest of your life... Read 6 reviews

Current Resident: Small village - about 3500 residents. Much to offer. There is a beautiful public pool, skating rink, golf course, youth center, museum, walkway along the river and a strong public school as well as a strong private school (Hoosac) and access to excellent medical care in the community and nearby (20 minutes from a regional medical center across the border in Vermont and 45 minutes from Albany Med). Great place to raise a family though there is very little diversity. 15 minutes from Vermont, 25 minutes to Williamstown, MA, 3 hours from cities like NY, Boston or Burlington. The Arts are all around us. You feel safe walking the community although it would be nice if there was more money for infrastructure improvement. Not much violent crime (other than domestic). Mayoral govt. which is not the most efficient. Would improve with one government for town and village, but no time to get into that here. Generally, people care and are friendly. Jobs scarce. Covid-19 was no exception, as the schools offered free lunch for kids and emotional support from the entire staff. The schools in our district offer an abundance of after-school activities such as clubs and sports. I love art and in the future, I hope to accomplish my dream of becoming an independent artist, using the skills I picked up along the way. Learning new art techniques every day has helped me to be nominated in numerous art shows, showcasing my talent to fellow artists. Another fun activity I was able to do was Girl Scouts where I've made some of my best friends. More recently I have started volunteering at my local library, helping the staff in the children's area. The town would only need more restaurants and recreational facilities. Current Resident: I'm a disabled vet and used to live in Albany. I moved here close to a yr ago. I like the area. It's clean and peaceful. Being black, I was a bit nervous moving to a virtually all white neighborhood, but to my surprise, I haven't experienced any racism. I gave it 4 stars because there's no public transportation and no mail delivery on my street. Luckily the store is a very short walk around the corner. The people here are friendly and sociable. No crime to speak of and the post office is a short walk to my house. Ordering things from Amazon is a problem cause I have to walk to pick them up from the p.o.
