Growing up here I loved going to all of the nature trails and visiting Donahue Memorial Park. The local coffee spots were also a personal favorite favorite. As a kid in Cornwall schools, the social dynamic in each school was more toxic compared to the average (a lot of student drama that is swept under the rug by administration). But a majority of teachers were welcoming and supportive, and our football team won the State Championships back-to-back in 2018 and 2019. Would I spend my whole life in this small town? Current Resident: Close to shopping, great commuter location, award winning Monroe-Woodbury schools with arts/music/athletics focus. One of the few towns to have a community pool and park in Central Valley, as well as Earl Reservoir Park with natural water access in Highland Mills. Small town feel, even with a large outlet mall in town. Downtown area needs a facelift and Route 32 cutting through the town doesn’t help. Nice houses, mix of liberal and conservative. Current Resident: Isn't the worst place in New York i've actually Grown to love it. It is definitely one of the most affordable neighborhoods in New York to live in at all. The neighborhood is "small" but not as small as it seems there's a lot of hills with new houses and everything is close by whether you need to go to another town or city to pick something up Montgomery,Walden,Newburgh, and Middletown are a 10 minute drive 40 minute bike ride away. There's been a decent amount of new Amenities over the past 3 years also a rise in crime but innocent people are never usually the victims of these.All around its not bad it's definitely Grown on me and I like it here.... Current Resident: When looking for a home Walden seems to be one of the last safe yet afford places to buy. We came up from NYC and rented in Beacon, then purchased a home in Walden. What attracted us is the gorgeous older homes and it's location. Countless parks between Walden which is in the Town of Montgomery. Also from our house it's 15 minutes to New Paltz, 15 to Adams/Target/BJ's in Newburgh, 25 minutes to beacon, 30 minutes to middletown mall, and 40 minutes to Warwick. I can get in NYC via the Bus 15 minutes away takes an hour, Hudson line in Beacon 25 minutes away takes an hour, or NJ Transit 13 minutes away via Campbell Hall which takes 45 minutes to Hoboken. Walden is a pretty town, has a nice newly built grocery store (Hannifords), Angry Orchard near by, farms for fresh food, good schools, and a large library. We moved here and do not regret it, this small town seems to get better every year!... Read 20 reviews
