Current Resident: Road construction has been ongoing since 2021 and I believe after it's finished it still won't be able to keep up with the traffic from the 3,000+ homes yet to be built. There aren't many great restaurants to choose from or healthy options. There aren't many summer camps for kids, or they fill up quickly. I do feel somewhat safe here. Former Resident: San Carlos has been my home for the last 18 years and leaving it was the hardest day of my life. While the neighborhood itself is small, there is still plenty to do with parks all around, amazing restaurants and tons of beautiful weather to go around. While it does get hot, being able to go to the beach nearly year round makes south west Florida one of my favorite places on the planet. Personally, I feel that Fort Myers is more suitable for older adults; I've often heard it referred to (and refer to it myself) as a "retirement community." If you consider that when Henry Ford and Thomas Edison came down here to make it their winter homes, it was not developed. Made primarily of single family homes, the area was to make it affordable for young firsy time buyers. My uncle was one of the first in the 1970's to buy a home here. We have easy access to I-75 and minutes from South Fort myers which has become a thriving metropolitan area that competes well with larger cities like New York and Atlanta. Riverdale high school is only 2 miles down the road and Riverhall and Alva Middle schools are within driving distance.
