Current Resident: Lansing is a great small town with vicinity to big town opportunities. I’ve been here since 2004 and there is a large military population as well as retired military population that is very supportive. In addition, the school district is great and takes the time to listen to parent concerns as well as student concerns. The local / been here all their life folks are welcoming, helpful and informative. It’s a place where you will really feel at home from the start. Niche User: I love Leavenworth! It has a beautiful downtown area, full of little shops, and a scenic river walk. The high school is large, but the class sizes are still small enough to not inhibit students' learning. The community is very involved and supportive. Leavenworth is a very small town, and that might discourage some because all big stores are at least a thirty minute drive. But, because of that, the town is surrounded by rolling, lush fields of wheat and sunflowers, both Kansas staples. I've enjoyed my time living in Leavenworth.... Read 60 reviews

Current Resident: I moved to Basehor in the summer of 2013 just before freshman year. I had just moved from Hawaii, being in the military, Kansas was a drastic change from tropical beach weather. Diversity is very little here also, but its still a fun and friendly town. The town kind of revolves around the High school which is really cool, people come out to the football soccer and basketball games, which are really good teams, basketball and soccer have been state runner ups within the last couple of years. economically, the town is pretty diverse, from poor, to wealthy. There is nice shopping here in town, mostly restaurants. Although 15 minuets away is a large shopping plaza, and we are only within a 45 minuet drive to major to college sport entertainment, and from Kansas City. Basehor has the best of two worlds in my oppinion. Not to cramped like the city, but close enough to it to enjoy what the city has to offer.... Read 13 reviews

Current Resident: It is a very nice town. The people are lovely and neighbors are almost always willing to help out. The weather here can get crazy. The winters are cold, and the summers are hot. This town experiences something called the 'Tonganoxie Split', where bad storms just kinda pass over Tongie. The schools are very nice and the after school activities are amazing(there are not any language classes). There are also many summer activities to participate in. There are maybe 15-20 restaurants. The pool is nice and big. There is a library, a park, and other facilities. There is a Dollar General and a grocery store. Downtown has shops, a small clinic, and a medicine store. There are a quite a bit of daycares. There's also a few events in the town you can go to. We take pride in our hometown football team, the Chieftains. This town is amazing. Niche User: I really love living here. I used to live in a close by town in a stuffy neighborhood and it was horrible. Now I live on 10 acres in a cute little farm home. We have the freedom to have chickens, horses, and as many pets as we would like. I can walk around and get some space without ever leaving home. In Lansing, there's not a shortage of locally owned restaurants with great food and service. There's a bowling alley, multiple parks, and tons of friendly people. In Lansing you can be in the country, drive ten minutes in any direction and suddenly find yourself in the city. I would never want to live anywhere else.... Read 2 reviews

Niche User: I feel relatively safe in my area. I live outside of town so we don't have to worry about a lot of criminal activity. In the Basehor area I would say it is a large majority of high school students who are committing crime whether it be speeding or otherwise. In the Bonner Springs area I would not necessarily feel as safe if I were to have to walk around at night, drugs are fairly prevalent in both areas.... Read 22 reviews

The only crime I can recall being informed of was car break-ins/theft suspected by teenagers a year or two ago, as well as people speeding and receiving tickets (much more common than break-ins)....
