The city has their favorite citizens and tends to give favor to them seemingly excluding them from local laws. The fire department is beyond exceptional and its members will be the 1st to give you a hand. City workers tend to carry a chip on their shoulders and very quick to give you a additude! City sewer and water rates are excessive compared to other local area fees. The parks department does a wonderful job and deserves more recognition. And our police department does a good job at keeping our streets safe except for those who they have been instructed to NOT ticket by the mayor. Current Resident: I love Galena because it is a tight-knit community of very loving people. The town sits right on the beautiful James River and is the county seat of Stone County, Missouri. It is a small town but there is a lot to do such as float the James River, go fishing, or visit local bars and restaurants. I am a senior at Galena High School and earlier this school year we lost a beloved student. Our hearts were broken, but it was heartwarming to see the way the community came together in support of the student we lost and in support of each other in a time of grief. The school is very good, especially for a small town. Our administration is constantly offering new opportunities and pushing students to reach their full potential.... Read 5 reviews

Niche User: Although my town seems to be getting run down and abandon, there's still the friendliness of the long time members of the town that make it great, the way of life we have. Farming is how most of my town gets by as we are small and distant from the city. Our way of life is simple which makes it the best way to live lots of learning to do maybe it isn't the education most people have but ours is not to shabby. We can tell you anything about farming, animals, animal medications, pesticides, tractors and all of that stuff how it works what's best. Although the new people coming to live making it trashy we keep our fields and homes looking clean. Land isn't cheap that's why it cost more to love where I do than in the city. I plan to raise my family here , I would defiantly chose this place again its not always the best but that's what makes it home.... Read 1 review
