Current Resident: We live in the Waterfront District in a Harborside Apartment with 2 children enrolled in the zoned Ps.16 school. This place is such a gem, it gives us close proximity to Midtown, NYC, excellent public transport via PATH or NY Waterway or locally the Light rail at our doorstep. It is a walkable city, everything is within walking distance. People are friendly and enough quality eating options around. We enjoy the fresh air, family friendly community, the views of the Manhattan Skyline, the people, the vibe, the school and how close it is to NYC without having to put up with the pollution, noise and risks to safety. We have our beautiful skyline that brings people in everyday to get the best view of NYC. Although green space is lacking, there are a few pockets in or nearby such as Canco Park, Leonard Gordon Park, and Pershing Field. The access to NYC is amazing: you can reach downtown NYC in about 10 mins, and midtown in about 20 mins. Current Resident: Lots of families. It’s a lot of diverse families. Seems to be trending as a neighborhood for people leaving the city or Hoboken. It is just on the cliff over Hoboken so easy access. Friendly mostly. Our neighbors at worst keep to themselves. It’s walkable. Decent for riding a bike too. There’s lots of neighborhood things going on. There are a number of parks with many events and sports for kids. Riverview park has a farmers market for half the year. Central ave is, well, the central avenue. Lots of local shops and many ethnic foods and grocers. The trash is awful though. It’s my biggest complaint about the neighborhood. I can deal with dangerous drivers but the trash is really sad to see when you walk out of your home. It’s a combination of people just littering without any regard for what that does, the trash pickup basically dumping trash in the streets every couple nights, and the city only cleans up downtown. Current Resident: I've grown up in Jersey City, and there are many things I really love about it, such as its proximity to Manhattan and the easy access to the big city across the Hudson River thanks to the PATH train. I also appreciate the vibrant downtown area and the beautiful marina I've ridden my bike beside for years alongside my family and friends. Additionally, there's the expansive Liberty State Park for family cookouts and picnics, and much more. It's quite a charming and welcoming place. Diversity is also something remarkable about Jersey City, constantly hearing people around you talking in their native tongues and admiring different traditional clothing on the streets. If there was something I could change about this great city, I would hope to get the community more engaged with each other by having more yearly neighborhood events. Walmart is 5 minutes drive , there are gyms close by, new restaurants, a beautiful Park (hudson park) that offers a nice and challenging run or work out with ample space and tennis court. Alot professionals people mixed with college students going to rutgers etc... Its 15 minutes away to Newark Airport... Its a beautiful town... Traffic can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but that is not that bad. I have lived in Brooklyn, Queens, Edison, Metuchen and have access to all amenities but I miss Harrison to be honest. Former Resident: Out of all the towns I ever lived in Kearny is 100% the best one. Great protective police force, great schools, great nightlife, and is also a great town to retire! Definitely the best town in New Jersey, and i can’t be convinced otherwise! Former Resident: In my opinion, Union is one of the best places to live, or at least to me is one of the nicest places I have lived in me. Without a doubt, one of the most remarkable features of this place is its great cultural diversity, not only when it comes to getting to know its inhabitants, but also in relation to places of entertainment and cuisine that best fit your cultural roots and habits. Furthermore, Union is a relatively quiet place, without excessive noise as would be in a big city, surrounded by nature and a peaceful atmosphere that to me has been difficult to replicate. Whereas, a at the same time, Union has as well the advantage of being very close to Manhattan; hence, you can always make a quick trip there in search of anything and everything. As we are a fifteen-minute bus ride away from New York City, a lot of people come here to avoid New York taxes while benefiting from their pay. It affects people such as my family and myself; rent inflation is absurd; there's no parking; and all available parking lots were turned into condominiums that the common people of West New York can't afford.
