Parent: We are long time Jersey City residents and my son is in 5th grade and he is here since PK. We are very happy with the OLC school, teachers are very helpful and professional, children are all well behaved and polite, school teach them well manner and being respectful. If you are looking for a balanced education this is the school for you. The reading and writing programs are exceptional. The math is always top notch and they won a few State wide championships. Before we start middle school we've looked around and compare with other public schools, we have decided to stay here because we feel this is best school for our son to grow up with. During pandemic challenging time, school have done excellent job to keep safe and functional for it's hybrid system, not only have fantastic hardware and tech support in all classes, also all teachers are doing great remotely and in class, we feel safe for our son in school every other week! We are proud to be part of OLC family!... Read 31 reviews

Current Resident: Community is small and quaint but at times it can be a very small, constricting bubble. In schools especially, everybody knows everybody, and that means that with any taint of originality can make your high school years truly uncomfortable. Since there is very little diversity in the town and most of the inhabitants are quite wealthy, some individuals are prejudiced and small minded. Otherwise, the school system, while at times formatted around the wealthier student body, is great and the town itself is pretty.... Read 22 reviews

Current Resident: We cannot song the praises of LIvingston NJ enough! Education is a high priority for those living in town, and it has a FANTASTIC, top-rated school district that consistently ranks among the highest and most desirable in NJ and the United States. Along with a strong Jewish community, diverse populations include a strong mix of Chinese, Korean Indian and other cultures. Property values remain high, and the community services offered include two beautiful park-like pools and a superb recreation program. Safety is excellent, as the emergency services here are too-notch. Add in a gorgeous township oval, spectacular high school and public library campus, ample shopping, plus plenty of scenic open space and you’ve got the winning combo for one of the best places to live and raise a family in New Jersey! We have lived here for 30 years and LOVE it!... Read 96 reviews

Current Resident: Maplewood is a lovely town to live in. Everyone is so friendly and there’s so a lot to do in town. There are always community events like plays, concerts, and festivals. Maplewood is a very liberal town and is a great place for LGBTQ+ families. There’s a ton of local shops and restaurants to support. What I love most is all of the well-maintained parks in town; as a parent, it’s great to have so many options for my children. The local libraries offer great programming for kids too. Recently, Maplewood has become a VERY popular place to live so it’s become harder and harder for lower income families to live here. We are currently renting but don’t think we will be able to afford a home in Maplewood with the competition of folks coming from Brooklyn and Queens.... Read 111 reviews

Current Resident: I have lived and attended school in this small town for all 17 years of my life. One thing I love most about South Orange is the diversity among residents/visitors that make up our community. We host many kinds of social events that are meant to welcome all walks of life to find their place here and become comfortable and familiar with the people and environment. I must say, it's been getting harder to afford living here since the tax has skyrocketed. Many residents are commuters that take the train to NY and that's a beneficial accommodation since we're in close proximity to the city. We have taken steps to promoting recycling/greener methods as well as healthier eating options such as weekly farmer's markets. Nightlife usually consists of high school/college students hanging out late looking for something to eat. Saturday Nights are busy! Regardless of bordering high-crime neighborhoods, South Orange is mostly safe. It's truly a great place to live, work, and raise a family.... Read 51 reviews

Current Resident: I grew up in West Orange most of my life. I came to this town at 5 years old and have been living here ever since. I've never had a particularly bad experience living in this town. It's safe, quiet, calm and there are many different stores you can shop in of your choice. There are many things you can do in this town. You can go to the zoo, there's an ice skating rink, movie theaters, a plaza and a 9/11 memorial reservation area where you can look at New York from a high distance. This town has a lot going for itself. The town of West Orange is also diverse, especially the schools. There are people with many different people from all diverse backgrounds who live in West Orange. There are many different personalities living in this town. My only criticism for this town is how expensive it is compared to other parts of New Jersey. It can be tough to live here because of how expensive it is. Besides that, the good outweighs the bad. There's a reason why I've lived here for a long time.... Read 123 reviews

Former Resident: I work downtown Newark. The landscape has changed over the years. The addition of NJPAC and Prudential Center have helped with revitalization. The mass transit connection is a plus between Penn Station Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, buses, and city subway it makes this a desirable location to live and work. Hopefully they manage to retain its historical aspects and focus on Lincoln Park & Newark Symphony Hall the way they did Military Park to maintain their relevance and connect versus dissect the revitalization efforts. Low income residents remain an issue contributing to crime and safety concerns that are not uncommon in most major metropolises. That waterfront should they ever get around to its revitalization is definitely a revenue producing proposition for the right visionary. Newark has come a long way and continues to have great potential. I'm holding out for condos to be built along a restored waterfront so I can make the move back to a city on the verge of greatness.... Read 5 reviews
