Current Resident: The good first: truly wonderful academics and sports opportunities, safe, affordable housing (despite a lot of complaints from people who move here from tiny rural towns - try moving to a big city and then come back and see how good we have it with housing), only 90 minutes from Minneapolis, fun art and music scene, pretty decent nightlife for a rural Wisconsin town, tons of things to do outside and it’s beautiful, too. Good range of political views across the spectrum. Job opportunities are average.
The bad: because it’s so big geographically commutes can be long; there’s a major lack of diversity in nearly everything, though many efforts are being made to improve this; it does have a small-town feel in terms of gossip, seeing people you know everywhere, relatively unaccepting of new kids at school, etc. Most people here are either mainstream, country, or hipster.
