Current Resident: Dekalb has a lot of potential. It's located off 88, so convenient for commuters. There schooling options other than the public schools. The public schools tend to have good teaching staff, however a certain segment of the student body come from dysfunctional homes which then cause discipline issues at school. This is a major distraction and hinders the opportunity for a quality education. I believe law enforcement needs to be stricter on enforcing the law as to reduce crime in the crime infested neighborhoods. Crime is located in a very small area of the town that constitutes for 90% of the crime. Avoid these neighborhoods and this town is a beautiful city in a country setting.... Read 178 reviews

Current Resident: I have lived here my whole life. It's a small town, but the people are friendly, and in typical small town fashion, you end up knowing a lot of people and running into each other all the time. Population was last counted at 1,200 (my family makes up 1% of that). I like how it's slow paced here and that everywhere you look is a farmer's field, and in the summer you can get fresh corn and produce, Summers here are great! I would change one thing though, people speed down the street I live on right now, and it's very dangerous, it's posted as 55, and you can easily tell they are going over. Small children and pets are out here, and having cars flying down the street like that just isn't safe.... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: I have lived in Sandwich ever since I was little. To sum it up, all I could say is that this location is very family friendly and is a remarkable place to raise your children. Overall, the town is pretty quiet and the neighbors here have the biggest hearts. The schools in town are some of the best and I would definitely recommend them to other families. Sandwich does have a movie theater, little boutiques, antique shops, and some good/family friendly restaurants and fast food places. Sycamore is so much more than a small town in the Midwest of the United States. Sycamore has been the home roots of so many wonderful, level-headed and open minded individuals who have excelled, traveled, and continue to revisit home to always remember where they originated. I am proud to say and to celebrate having been a citizen of Sycamore for nearly two decades and cannot imagine having grown up anywhere else. The sense of security and safety I feel while doing things as simple as running daily errands or commuting to and from school are enough peace of mind. The people from Sycamore are unlike anywhere else. They are the first to run up and open a door for you and to share a simple hello with a smile. Easy to drive around the streets doesn't get to packed. The main downside is that there could be more of a nightlife. almost all events that are interesting are through the college and not the community. so overall great place to go to college but move away when your done.... Current Resident: Waterman is a peaceful place, featuring, clean air and a good standard of living. It has the basics, a few stores and restaurants, some nice parks, and is close enough to the amenities of the more densely-populated suburbs (20 minute drive) to make it convenient. Nearby Shabbona state park (7 minutes away) provides opportunities for outdoor activity. It's a great town for kids, and for pets. I moved here after living in Chicago/Berwyn/Lombard/Naperville.
