Current Resident: First off, St. Joseph, Michigan, houses the nicest community I've ever encountered with. Everyone here is so loving and caring. Furthermore, St. Joseph High School is an excellent school, providing great education and extra curricular activities for the students. The teachers really care about the students and put them first before themselves. Moving away from school, downtown St. Joe is where it's at. Whether you want to go eat at the Broad Cafe, stroll by Silver Beach, or even buy a souvenir at a gift shop, there is always something for each person. Nearby Resident: Berrien Springs is a small town with a strong community. Although it may not look the greatest, the people in the town are what make it worthwhile. The community is diverse, mainly inclusive, and supportive of the struggles of those around them. For example, there was a Black Lives Matter march held in honor of the many victims of police brutality in the summer of 2020. The turnout was amazing and the amount of support and love that the community held for others was incredibly impactful. That being said, there is still work to be done to the town of Berrien Springs. There are only a few small businesses, some of the roads are in rough shape, and other small details. Despite this, I believe that the little town of Berrien Springs is a great one.... Visitor: a great little town that I have come to like. the winters are severe, so I try and not visit then, but all other 3 seasons are great. The beach is fun. There are a few good spots for food. One or two nice fine dining spots. Great fishing/boating on one of the largest fresh water bodies. Comparatively cheap to most of the country, and 4 of the top 25 colleges within 100 miles or so. I think this is probably one of the best spots in the Midwest to raise a family. Drawbacks are a lack of anything for 21+ night life, it is a small town that is between four of the top 25 worst places in the US (Benton harbor, south bend, Chicago and Detroit). It’s a 6 month per year town if you can afford another place in Florida, which many people can considering homes here are cheap. Seems people kind of hibernate in winter and that just doesn’t seem fun or healthy . Also, the job situation seems to be built entirely off one corporation- Whirlpool.
