Current Resident: Great neighborhood full of friendly people. Very walkable to everything you could possibly need… grocery store, farmers market, coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, boutiques, church, private schools, a college, huge park, dog park, the list goes on. Current Resident: Ferndale has so much character. People here do fun, unique things with their yards and businesses. Restaurants are great, parks are plentiful, and if you’re an art lover, you will go broke attending summer festivals. I love the diversity and how welcoming the neighborhoods are. Current Resident: After close to 8 years in the neighborhood, it's relatively charming and safe. Even though it's close to a highway and right above downtown, you feel as though you are in a bubble in this neighborhood. Most of the people that you'll run into vary between college students, hospital workers, industry workers (Bar & Downtown), upper class condo owners on Fairfield Ave., and occasionally those living near Creston Plaza Apartments. It's a very mixed but comfortable community. LOTS of renters. Recently many of the houses have been bought up and rented out/tore down for further development. Belknap Lookout has often been compared to a lesser Heritage Hill, and has recently been for either renters or wealthy home owners. I've never really experienced any crimes or issues such as that. You'll have occasional car break ins, or drunken homeless coming in from downtown, or people doing whatever in the parks nearby at night, but that's it. This place was my home for many years. Current Resident: Pleasant Ridge is a wealthy community with beautiful antique homes. The community is kind and welcoming. There are many parks and recreational spaces within the neighborhood. The city in split in half by Woodward which has led to an interesting wealth disparity. Pleasant Ridge has an extremely small population which is the reason for lack of school district. Former Resident: Truly a magical place! A2 exists in its own world and operates drastically different from anywhere outside the city line. As the most educated city in America, A2 is full of sharp and highly intelligent people. These people tend to be very eccentric, youthful, and sometimes prickly or rude, regardless of age. It's a city of the forever young! Very walkable and dense in the urban center and stunningly beautiful everywhere you go. World-class dining, an incredibly diverse population, and a strong sense of community and optimism. Most of the population is incredibly wealthy which in turn makes living costs incredibly expensive for everyone else. However, living here is worth the price tag for the experience. Pro tip living here: take little trips into the real world (outside city lines) to give yourself a mental break sometimes. Current Resident: Alger is such a special place to live -- it truly reminds me of a small town in the middle of a big city. Neighbors are respectful, down to earth, and there is such a "community" feel. I get many groceries at Kens, go out for a beer at Brass Ring, grab takeout from Old Goat and Don Betos, get breakfast at Real Food, take my kids to Alger Peds, and get my hair cut at Urban Johnny's. Current Resident: We just moved here from California in February 2021 and I really love this town. For making such a big change in geography, I feel very comfortable here. It’s definitely a more high-end town/city. The houses are well maintained, with quality architecture and beautiful landscapes. The neighborhoods are very cute, like being in a Hallmark movie. Some of the homes are amazing mansions. The town center is full of nice restaurants, classy shops, spas and salons, etc. You won’t feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere while living here. Also, the city is so close to everything! I love being able to be 5 minutes away from grocery stores, doctors and hospitals, restaurants, etc. I love walking around this town. It’s just beautiful and the atmosphere seems very safe. Yes, there are some snobby people, but I guess that’s the influence that makes it so nice!
