Parent: We are a new family coming into the school & will most likely have more to say in the future, but our experience w/the admissions & leadership team deserves a review now. We are thrilled & feel like this is a very good fit for us- values, education & community-wise. From the very first moment I heard leadership and staff announce their pronouns, to throughout the many open houses, I feel like we were seen & belong. Both Shamika & Ashaki were phenomenal throughout the admissions process. Their responsiveness, attention to detail, kindness & professionalism were top notch. They both spent time really getting to know us, and contributed to a feeling that no matter what happened, we had a fairest opportunity in the process. Further, to have received an invite right away for my daughter to join a cooking class for new middle schoolers this week blew my mind- we are months away from start & they would be forgiven for taking a break before jumping into welcoming activities! Thank U SSFS!... Read 76 reviews

Current Resident: We cannot song the praises of LIvingston NJ enough! Education is a high priority for those living in town, and it has a FANTASTIC, top-rated school district that consistently ranks among the highest and most desirable in NJ and the United States. Along with a strong Jewish community, diverse populations include a strong mix of Chinese, Korean Indian and other cultures. Property values remain high, and the community services offered include two beautiful park-like pools and a superb recreation program. Safety is excellent, as the emergency services here are too-notch. Add in a gorgeous township oval, spectacular high school and public library campus, ample shopping, plus plenty of scenic open space and you’ve got the winning combo for one of the best places to live and raise a family in New Jersey! We have lived here for 30 years and LOVE it!... Read 97 reviews

Current Resident: Glen Ridge is a fabulous place to live and raise a family. I respectfully disagree with some of the reviews regarding intolerance and the school not being accepting if you are a tad original. My child could not have been more different and unique in his interests as our whole family. We have always found our way in this wonderful community and have built lasting relationships. The proximity to New York City is unparalleled and to marvelous restaurants all over North NJ. Also the town is not pretentious as someone added. It's just very small.... Read 23 reviews

Current Resident: Maplewood is a lovely town to live in. Everyone is so friendly and there’s so a lot to do in town. There are always community events like plays, concerts, and festivals. Maplewood is a very liberal town and is a great place for LGBTQ+ families. There’s a ton of local shops and restaurants to support. What I love most is all of the well-maintained parks in town; as a parent, it’s great to have so many options for my children. The local libraries offer great programming for kids too. Recently, Maplewood has become a VERY popular place to live so it’s become harder and harder for lower income families to live here. We are currently renting but don’t think we will be able to afford a home in Maplewood with the competition of folks coming from Brooklyn and Queens.... Read 111 reviews

Current Resident: Very safe small town with a wide selection of restaurants and small businesses. The residents are nice for the most part, though there are some racists as with every town in America. The public schools are above average, but nothing too special. It's very close to New York City and more densely populated towns so there's a lot of job opportunities. However, there is no diversity as it is almost all white and nightlife is non-existent as its mostly families living here. The cost of living here is high, but that is expected for anywhere in New Jersey.... Read 4 reviews

Current Resident: I have lived and attended school in this small town for all 17 years of my life. One thing I love most about South Orange is the diversity among residents/visitors that make up our community. We host many kinds of social events that are meant to welcome all walks of life to find their place here and become comfortable and familiar with the people and environment. I must say, it's been getting harder to afford living here since the tax has skyrocketed. Many residents are commuters that take the train to NY and that's a beneficial accommodation since we're in close proximity to the city. We have taken steps to promoting recycling/greener methods as well as healthier eating options such as weekly farmer's markets. Nightlife usually consists of high school/college students hanging out late looking for something to eat. Saturday Nights are busy! Regardless of bordering high-crime neighborhoods, South Orange is mostly safe. It's truly a great place to live, work, and raise a family.... Read 52 reviews

Current Resident: I grew up in West Orange most of my life. I came to this town at 5 years old and have been living here ever since. I've never had a particularly bad experience living in this town. It's safe, quiet, calm and there are many different stores you can shop in of your choice. There are many things you can do in this town. You can go to the zoo, there's an ice skating rink, movie theaters, a plaza and a 9/11 memorial reservation area where you can look at New York from a high distance. This town has a lot going for itself. The town of West Orange is also diverse, especially the schools. There are people with many different people from all diverse backgrounds who live in West Orange. There are many different personalities living in this town. My only criticism for this town is how expensive it is compared to other parts of New Jersey. It can be tough to live here because of how expensive it is. Besides that, the good outweighs the bad. Former Resident: I work downtown Newark. The landscape has changed over the years. The addition of NJPAC and Prudential Center have helped with revitalization. The mass transit connection is a plus between Penn Station Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, buses, and city subway it makes this a desirable location to live and work. Hopefully they manage to retain its historical aspects and focus on Lincoln Park & Newark Symphony Hall the way they did Military Park to maintain their relevance and connect versus dissect the revitalization efforts. Low income residents remain an issue contributing to crime and safety concerns that are not uncommon in most major metropolises. That waterfront should they ever get around to its revitalization is definitely a revenue producing proposition for the right visionary. Newark has come a long way and continues to have great potential. I'm holding out for condos to be built along a restored waterfront so I can make the move back to a city on the verge of greatness.... Read 5 reviews

Alum: I grew up in Chicago, where few students attend boarding school, so I didn't know what to expect when I traveled across the country for high school. I'm so thankful I took that risk! Chatham Hall was a warm, challenging, exciting environment. It opened up opportunities I never would have had anywhere else. As a student on scholarship, I felt consistently valued and supported. After graduation, I came to appreciate the experience even more: I arrived at college far better prepared than almost any of my peers. Through college, a doctorate, and now a STEM career, my Chatham Hall education has remained a touchstone. Most importantly, Chatham Hall feels like home to this day. Niche User: Stuart really provides a very individualized education for girls. I have noticed an attention to the specific learning styles, interests, and needs of every student. The ability of the teachers to bring high quality programing through distance learning has not been matched by any school in the area. It was clear they were committed to delivering the same quality education, activities, and community events remotely that they are known for in a traditional setting. I could not be more impressed with the school's transition during a very challenging time. Thank you teachers for a job well done!... Read 90 reviews
