Current Resident: Convenient to University of Pennsylvania, HUP, Graduate Hospital, Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, Drexel, and Center City. Upscale restaurants abound. Near Schulykill River Park. 30th Street Station (Amtrak, SEPTA) are well within walking distance. South Street offers plentiful shopping and coffee shops (South Street Market, Heirloom Market, CVS, Starbucks) are all nearby. Fitler Square itself has an association that sponsors many events for families and children throughout the year. Farmers market is located on Fitler Square (23rd St. side) on Saturday mornings throughout most of the year. Nice community feel, with many young families.... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: Queen Village I hear has the best public schools in Philadelphia, so that is a big plus for families. It is generally safe and accessible to many vibrant parts of the city. Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Washington Square, Broad Street, and the Italian Market are all in walkable distance. I-95 is also closely accessible from the neighborhood, which should make the commute out of the city easier compared to the other neighborhoods. There are many good restaurants in the neighborhood as well. Some cons are that the gyms are overall terrible in the city. You have to do group/class training if you even want to go to a decent gym. The crime is also really bad in the city as whole, but Queen Village is one of the safest neighborhoods among it all. There are also opportunities to own a parking spot in the neighborhood, which we do. I would highly suggest this, since metered parking can be challenging to find.... Read 7 reviews

Former Resident: Great city neighborhood. Walkable to Center City and lots of museums, libraries, book stores, shopping, abundant public transportation, Target and Whole Foods and a generally safe area. Living here was great. Small locally owned restaurants and shops were great. There’s the occasional one off crime but this seems rare. Parking can be hard to find, especially during Terror Behind the Walls. Works Here: I have worked in Washington Square West for over eight years and have lived here for one of those years. Current Resident: It is very beautiful. The museums make the neighborhood attractive. With so much to see, there are always tourists around. It is very family friendly. People can be seen walking their dogs at all hours. The Whole Foods has done wonders for the neighborhood. There are so many essential stores to choose from such as CVS, Target, and Wawa. I never have to walk more than a few blocks to get what I need. However, I wish stores didn't close so early. There is also an abundance of homeless people. While there are so many park areas, I never have the desire to enjoy them because they are inhabited by much of the homeless population.... Read 15 reviews

Current Resident: Manayunk is an excellent community which seems to have a bright future. It has all but totally shed its “college bro” stereotype with its growing appeal to young professionals, families and people from varying walks of life. The neighborhood has great amenities such as restaurants, bars, shopping, train access to center city, and great access to trails— both the schuylkill and forbidden drive. Former Resident: I lived here for 2.5 years. I really loved the neighborhood. You could walk everywhere: Fishtown, Northern Liberties, and the El was so close. I felt safe for the most part (although my car window was shot out and my husband's car was broken into) but we felt safe walking back from the bar. Housing got kind of crazy expensive, but renting was still pretty reasonable. Best thing by far is the food and bar scene! Lots of young people.... Read 6 reviews

Current Resident: I was born and raised in the wonderful neighborhood of East Falls, a warm, loving, and close-knit community. East Falls is a small neighborhood located in Philadelphia. Ever since I can remember, the whole community of East Falls has always embraced one another, from holding spring and summer (4th of July) block parties to Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas events, amongst other small local events that brought/brings the neighbors together to support one another. East Falls reminds me of the old hit TV show Cheers and its theme song, the line "You want to go where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came" because that is East Falls anywhere you go in the neighborhood everyone knows everyone.... Current Resident: University City is a great area for students and young people as there are a couple of affordable places to shop and eat. It has become a little unsafe and and increase in loitering and homelessness. Therefore, as a female student, I feel very unsafe walking home at night. Current Resident: I have been living in the olde-richmond area for a year and a half. It feels safe, and quiet, tons of families with kids or babies walking around. Very close to all the action in Fishtown (lots of restaurant options and tons more opening up). Lots of new construction and development happening around. Very walkable but also close to all public transport ti get to center city. In my area parking is still easy to find, hopefully this doesn't change too soon. Current Resident: Spruce Hill is somewhere between "much, much better than average" and "the very best" in Philadelphia. A historic neighborhood of charming large Victorian homes - most subdivided into apartment units - and leafy shady streets. Some blocks are gorgeous. There are homes scattered around that have sold for over a million dollars. The jewel of the area is pretty Clark Park, where free movies, Shakespeare in the Park, and orchestra concerts by the take place. One of the safer places to live, but not the safest - burglaries and car thefts do happen. Diverse array of interesting and ethnic restaurants. The only downside is there are lot of grad students and interns here and therefore there are a lot of pizzerias and neighborhood bars - not a "family" feel to the area and parking very difficult....
