Current Resident: Turnagain is a family friendly, residential neighborhood of various income levels, ethnicities, religious preferences, and housing options. It is full of parks, (including some with playgrounds),bicycle paths, green spaces, has two elementary schools, seasonal tennis courts, a variety of churches, and a few businesses. I live in the eastern part and work in neighboring Spenard. As a carbon footprint conscious walker, I appreciate the many bike trails and walkability of living here plus the access to public transportation I have. Because of being next to Spenard and all of its amenities, I live within a mile of a supermarket, drugstore, hairdresser, two bookstores, coffee shops, a large variety of restaurants (diners, pork free pizza, Greek, Korean, Italian, Thai, Chinese, and more), an Urgent Care Clinic, a dentist, and four banks. Niche User: I would definitely consider living here again because it's a great place to raise a family. The outdoors are close to everything, and there is a steady job market that allows for stability while supporting a family. The quality of life is good, although the price of living in Anchorage is rather high compared to the rest of the country. Everything costs more because of shipping expense. Current Resident: Girdwood is a small but beautiful ski resort town surrounded by snow capped mountains and forest. There are plenty of trails for hikers of all ages, each with stunning views of true Alaskan wilderness. There are also delicious restaurants to choose from for sit down meals or a quick bite (there's even a brewery!) The people are friendly and range from upper crust families who work in the oil industry, ski bums and transient folk who arrive for the various seasons. Everything is walkable, or bike friendly, but there's also a free shuttle that runs pretty reliably every day. Pricing for housing can vary but families with multiple homes typically rent out affordable units for couples or singles; buying is another story, and prices can often skyrocket.... Read 1 review

Niche User: Even though this is a small town and there's not much things to do if you're single, for my little family, I think it's a great place to live compare to all the other city I've lived in. I think that more people are moving here and because of that, new stores and restaurants are opening, giving more variety and opportunities for everyone. Current Resident: Born and raised in Sand Lake. It's grown over the 38 years I've lived here, and with that growth there have been many changes. Some good some bad. Anchorage as a whole has more crime in general however sand lake still feels safe to walk the streets alone at night or safe to send your kid off to the bus stop or on a bike ride. Being close to Kincaid is a a bonus, in addition to taste freeze and Ronnie's sushi. I really appreciate the prodixe and organic selection at the local Fred Meyer and the staff is very friendly. Current Resident: In our experience, this has been a very safe neighborhood. Most of the houses are clean and attractive. We are right next to a park/forest with endless trails and places to play. We are very close to grocery stores and only a short drive to most malls and shops. My husband commutes an easy 15-20 minutes to base and we are minutes away from both highways. Although there is no nightlife in this neighborhood, downtown is only a 15 minute drive or a twenty dollar cab ride away. We have a great view of the Chugach Mountains, however we do get terrible winds in the spring and since the main runaway at the airport is being overhauled, most air traffic has been diverted directly over our house. We are currently renting, but the market in this area seems fair for the standard of living we have experienced. As an added bonus, most of our neighbors have been very nice and quiet. Current Resident: I love living in this neighborhood and have almost never felt threatened while living here. I grew up in this neighborhood, I would never want to grow up any where else. I have very fond memories or riding my bike around the block, dancing in sprinklers and even learning how to skateboard with my dad. Current Resident: Eagle River is a big community of about 10 thousand in Alaska where mulitple local activites are held. We have Bear Paw Festival in October, which is the big festival of the year. It lasts a week and there are about 10 things to do all around town every day. Things like our Teddy Bear picnic, painting contests, pie eating contests, grilling contests, and much more. There are rides set up for the weekend in our town square and we have a giant hour long parade on Saturday that goes through the main part of town. We also have quaint little druve though coffee shops around every corner and they all have thier thing. One sells soda drinks and smores. Another sells gormet doughnuts from our local doughnut shop. Some sell local bakes goods from all around the state. Almost everything in our town is locally owned which makes our town special. The crime is second to none in our town as the Anchorage Police Department will say. We have homes and neighborhoods that will fir every lifestyle.... Read 147 reviews

Current Resident: Chugiak is a relatively small town in alaska but it is connect to the city of anchorage (our biggest city). The community is small so everybody knows of or knows everybody. I’ve always lived here and it’s a beautiful place to live. The mountains are the best feature in my opinion.
