Current Resident: I temporarily moved here 3 months ago to attend MIAD and I instantly fell in love with the buildings and the plants the overall feel of the area. I love the old brick buildings. The nightlife here is great but only if you're looking for something on the tame side. We have plenty of classy bars and several casual (but expensive!) restaurants.... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: Riverwest is a hidden gem in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This neighborhood has the greatest sense of community and willingness to help each other. Not only that but we have a great, albeit small, farmers market. Whenever something happens to a fellow neighbor we all do our best to reach out and help. There are great resources here for those in need including but not limited to; a recovery home for women and their children, a recovery home for young men, and a food pantry. It's fantastic! One thing I would change and I would change it everywhere if I could, would be the crime. It's not terrible but it always makes me so sad to see another home or car broken into. Overall Riverwest is a fantastic place to live and would recommend it to anyone.... Read 7 reviews

Current Resident: We have lived in this neighborhood since 1967. It is a vibrant neighborhood with a mix of home owners and renters. A mix of students and families. It is extremely walkable with many restaurants, bars , stores and two movie theaters nearby. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee dominates the neighborhood architecture and provides some cultural offerings. Our children were able to take College for Kids and sports classes, swim lessons there and use the UWM daycare. The neighborhood has good connections to public transportation. It is close enough to downtown Milwaukee and many festivals and theaters downtown . There is some concern about crime as there is in any urban area. Overall we have enjoyed raising our family here... Current Resident: I'm not sure if Downer Woods is an official neighborhood or not. It seems to exist, but I have never heard anyone say "I live in Downer Woods." There isn't a lot to say about it, it's just a pretty nice residential area around UWM. It doesn't get loud or anything but there's still plenty to do within walking distance. It's a very safe upper east side neighborhood with friendly people.... Read 1 review

Current Resident: Lovely diverse neighborhood with a good mix of old and new- in regards to architecture, establishments, and overall development. You will find luxury high rises and traditional Milwaukee duplexes. Rent here is generally reasonable. Parking is impossible. GREAT bars and restaurants and Brady St. is a treasure. Close to the lake and the river with great views on either end of the neighborhood. Little crime- the occasional car break-in, nothing that makes you feel unsafe. Have enjoyed living here for years.... Read 3 reviews

Former Resident: There are pockets of The Heights that are great. There are pockets that aren't kept up very well at all. However, this urban neighborhood has a great neighborhood association and several perks going for it! This is a great place for families! So many young families live here and take their kids out for walks. The Boulevard Bash every summer brings everyone together for a good, old-fashioned street festival. Plus, the nighttime trick-or-treating is some of the best in the city -- families must pre-register and the area of the neighborhood hosting it that year really goes ALL OUT for the decorations. Some drawbacks: crime. There are several car break-ins throughout the year. Lock your doors! Several blocks have implemented block watches for drug deals that happen on several tucked away streets.... Read 1 review

Current Resident: The Cooper Park Neighborhood is a very nice neighborhood to live in. Often when I am outside, I see people going on walks with their friends and family. I feel as if I know many of my neighbors, which creates a nice small community. Overall, I feel very safe in the neighborhood I live in. The commute is very nice as well. Everything I need is within a 5-10 minute drive from my house including grocery stores, the library, schools, and shops.... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: This is the perfect pocket of Milwaukee to live in. Easy on-off ramp to the highway. West of Story Hill. South of East Tosa. East of Zoo. The home prices are very reasonable and several have the Milwaukee bungalow charm! There's very little traffic that goes through the neighborhood: Bluemound to the North, Hawley to the East, I-94 to the South. The neighborhood is great to walk around in the evening with a young family. The yards are HUGE in some areas! Much bigger than the typical lot in Wauwatosa or neighborhoods downtown....
