Neighborhood in Newton, MA
Current Resident: I like all there is to do here. There’s plenty of food places, stores, and schools in the area. It’s very safe, there’s never a day where I’m feeling unsafe or scared to be out and about. Traffic usually isn’t too bad, unless it’s right after school.... Read 23 reviews

Alum: I am an alumni of District Heights Elem. I went there from Pre-K to 6th grade and those were my best years in school. When I was going there, diversity wasn't really throughout the school. I may have been one of the 5 or 6 hispanics there but I made many friends there. I learned what I needed to know and I was also in the TAG program there. The TAG program taught me very outside of the box thinking that has helped me in my later years. Overall, District Heights was a good school. I return there regularly to keep my favorite teachers updated on the whereabouts of my education.... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: NUF is a one of 13 villages of the city of Newton. It is not one of wealthier villages, and has a fair amount of renters living in the area. Overall it is a very safe neighborhood, with an MBTA train stop for greater access to the city of Boston, Cambridge, Brookline and other areas that the MBTA services. On the down side, it is becoming overcrowded as older lower priced homes are being bought, torn down and rebuilt. The population is not that diverse, but more diverse than other villages in Newton.... Read 1 review

Current Resident: Nice, safe neighborhood in Newton. Everything is a short walk or quick bike ride, which is a big plus over other Newton neighborhoods where you need to drive everywhere. There's a commuter rail station going to Boston or Worcester in the other direction. The Riverside green line T station into Boston is close too. There is a supermarket, post office, Starbucks, and a bunch of small shops. Auburndale Park has riverfront views and ball fields. There is a paddle boat launch near the Marriot hotel. You can jump on Rt. 128 or Mass Pike highways easily. People are very nice overall. Schools are good. Just a nice place to settle down. Worst thing you can say is that there isn't much open past 9 or 10 o'clock at night and housing is expensive, but you are close to Boston so you have entertainment options and good jobs close by.... Current Resident: Moved to Oak Hill Park recently and we love it here! The area was designed to be walked with the family through it's many walking paths that surrounds a school/community center with a large field, tennis courts, and playground. Not a lot of car traffic and many families biking the streets. Many of the early ranch style houses are being torn down at a fast clip with larger houses replacing them. There is an MBTA bus (52) that runs through the area and the closest Commuter Rail is only a 5 minute drive. It's a quiet and unique neighborhood built for families with great schools.... Current Resident: Super safe and family friendly suburb of Boston. Great commuting options with proximity to highway and green line T. 20 min drive into city if no traffic. Easy access to Newton Centre restaurants and multiple grocery stores. Mostly larger 4 bedroom+ single family residential homes owned by professionals (lawyers, doctors, finance, etc.) and retirees. Diversity and affordability are a bit lacking.... Read 4 reviews

Parent: We lived in Newton for over 20 years. Although there have been changes over the years, it really hasn't changed much in terms of quality of life, however has done a good job keeping up with changing demographics and economics. This is a great place for working moms and dads to raise a family. Great schools, team sports, convenience of getting around for parents and kids as they grow older - and still feel like you are in a someone suburban neighborhood. Newton is the perfect size with accessibility to Boston and all the cultural advantages of Boston. I have lived in Atlanta, Dallas, Louisville, New York and the Detroit area. Although there are many advantages of all of these cities, Newton is safe, still pretty and easy to live in. Weather is a significant factor whether we will stay here. I see the future continuing to be bright and sustain its allure.... Read 9 reviews

Parent: We have had an absolutely amazing experience at the Fenn so far. Our son, who just joined the 5th grade, is about three months in so far and is having the time of his life. Coming from a public school, the environment couldn't be more different; he is constantly challenged, both in terms of the freedom given to him to organize his own day and show up to places on time and also academically, where (for someone who always excelled in his public schools) he is being challenged for the first time. Our entire experience - from the first contact with the admissions team to our last event at the school - has been more than we could have hoped, and we're so excited about the future at Fenn!... Parent: With a current senior and a freshman it is fair to say we are Crusader supporters! To sum it up: the kids, faculty and administration make each other better. From academics to athletics, to the school atmosphere, there is a nurturing yet rigorous emphasis on developing the children to be strong contributors in the world. We have seen first hand with our oldest, the maturity in both the classroom and competitions that have prepared him well with fundamentals to move on to college. For our freshman we have witnessed the importance of flourishing in an environment that has both depth and breadth of offerings from a curriculum perspective as well as an extra-curricula perspective. It amazes us to see what the school is offering and even more so to witness our kids actively participate in so much, be recognized for their contributions and develop the skills necessary to be future leaders in society. Perfect fit all around thanks to the foundation laid at Fenwick.... Read 130 reviews
