Current Resident: The Garden District is great! I’ve lived here for 30 years. The boundaries on this website are incorrect. The Garden District of Baton Rouge is an established neighborhood consisting of 3 subdivisions—Roselyn’s Terrace, Drehr Place, and the first filing of Kleinert Terrace whose residents banded together 45 years ago to form the District. All three subdivisions are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Garden Disttict of Baton Rouge has been designated as a “Great American Neighborhood” by the American Planning Association. There is an active civic association with frequent social events and off duty police patrols. Crime is low compared to suburban areas and there are 5 blue-ribbon schools within walking distance. If you like biking and walking and want to feel connected to your community this is the place to be!... Read 2 reviews

Senior: Madeira's mission of "launching women who change the world" guides every aspect of this unique educational experience. I am extremely grateful for my education and appreciate the environment Madeira fosters to make every student thrive. From small, personalized class with the modular schedule, to a tight community of both students and faculty, to worldly experiences, Madeira prepares us for the future that we will inherit. Of particular note is the Co-Curriculum program that gives us real world experiences each year -- something that a teenager cannot find anywhere else. It is extremely impressive to be able to go to a college interview or job interview and say you have worked on Capitol Hill! I think Madeira is made up of small moments - traditions, laughing in the library, baking with your teachers - that become impactful, life-changing moments at such a pivotal age. This personal attention gives us the confidence and the leadership skills to take on any issue. Life changing!... Read 106 reviews

Current Resident: The Perkins Rowe area is in my opinion the most modern and entertaining area in Baton Rouge. There are plenty of fast food places and stores around, but what's even more worth being in this area are the parks and movie theaters. Many people come through here to find something fun to do especially during quarantine.... Read 84 reviews

Current Resident: I moved downtown about 6 months ago and I love it. Almost feels like your on vacation everyday, I guess due to living right by the casino, museum, River walk, the river tours and of course live after 5 is right out the door. I live at the Maritime One Apartments which I consider to be the best kept secret in Baton Rouge. Now I do see a lot of homeless people sleeping on the side walks and walking around. I feel bad for them really but I’m a little nervous about them. Although they have never done anything to cause me to worry... Read 1 review

Niche User: This place isn't perfect. We have some crime in the streets and the school system leaves some things to be desired. But the people are friendly and happy and the area is well located (somewhat rural while still within city limits and close to major attractions and sources of employment), so that is all I need to be happy here and satisfied enough to not worry about moving anytime soon. The police force is doing a good job and I have never been in the way of crime. The government is stable and keeps everything under control. New businesses are moving in and there is no major shortage of jobs. The natural environment is green and beautiful, like a huge forest that has only been cleared in the few places where it was necessary to build a home or public building. I think it is a fantastic place to live.... Read 15 reviews

Alum: I was at Ideaventions from 7th grade through 12th grade, and it was a phenomenal experience. The teachers give high quality, engaging lessons. Roughly half of the classes are project based, even the English classes, something that I think is great when it comes to learning how to work effectively. The engineering classes are all hands on, where the classwork revolves around designing and building systems. The math curriculum is deep and efficient, the teachers present the information in an efficient manner that gets at the core axioms of a concept which us students then extrapolated and implemented in order to solve problems, a method I find to be far superior to the traditional approach of memorizing steps to solve problems. The clubs! These were the best part of the school, and there are all kinds of fun clubs. A few of my favorites were the Naturalist club, Inventor's club, Math Honors Society, Dungeons and Dragons club, and the Sysadmin club. I 100% recommend this school.... Read 12 reviews
