Current Resident: Hyde Park is awesome. It's walkable, quaint, pleasant. Neighbors are interesting and approachable. SO many walkable places for dinner, drinks, groceries, lunch, coffee. Historic sites like the Lizbet Ney Museum and cultural places like the Hyde Park Theater add to everyone's living experiences here. Brand new pool finished by the city in the summer of 2020. So easy to get anywhere in central Austin, yet most weekends we just hang in the neighborhood without having to drive anywhere. Hyde Park is an eclectic, artistic, homey community within a city.... Former Resident: I lived here during my college years. Unconventional from living on campus or near campus but it was worth it because this neighborhood was a heavenly oasis. A home I made my own. Within walking distance of River Stone Ranch my old apartment complex, I could reach a whole 6+ mile walking trail. Which is a totally separate walking trail from the Whole Foods nearby. If I didn't feel like spending a ton on groceries, the beloved HEB Texas grocery store is right down the road. Truly a wonderful distance from University/Downtown, while letting me escape the bustle of it all. I miss this place so much, just thinking about it takes my breath away. Current Resident: Great place to live, but traffic getting in and out of the area is bad. Good restaurants starting to come into the area. Still not terribly horrible traffic going to Dripping Springs for less stressful retail options. Current Resident: This is a vibrant neighborhood in the best part of the city, with really good schools, eclectic and fun neighborhoods, and access to the best social and cultural aspects of central Austin. It's far enough from downtown to be out of the frenzy, but close enough that residents can walk or bike to work on the hike and bike trails. Young family are everyplace, with top schools at all levels. South Lamar's hot restaurant scene is right in your lap, and you're a short walk from Barton Springs and Zilker Park. Niche User: The area where I live is very cool because it is a student area. Wherever you go, you can see students walking around all the time. The walking distance from campus is also great! I would definitely choose to live here again if I had the chance. Austin is a very beautiful city with natural landmarks everywhere. I cannot compare it to another state in this country because I have not really traveled outside of Texas except to Florida and California. I can say, however, that it is definitely better than El Paso, TX. That is my hometown and Austin has a lot more to give in every aspect there is. Niche User: I have lived here in Austin for a little more than a year now, great city. With that being said however, my school is the opposite. I attend the Austin Community College I have become concerned this past year. I have overheard that the police at one of the five branches state that theft is a problem there at Northridge, one of the campuses. Current Resident: Bouldin is located not too far from Downtown Austin, but it does not feel as concrete and urban as downtown. There are still lots of trees, small pocket parks, and narrow roads. The city has recently made some of these roads "Health Streets" - e.g. only open to local traffic to make way for more cyclists and pedestrians. Many businesses along S. 1st St. have been around for a long time and use buildings that have been remodeled rather than rebuilt. However, as the city continues to grow I have definitely seen more high-rise apartment buildings pop up. I imagine in the next five years it will be more like South Lamar.... Read 1 review

Current Resident: I love living in Downtown Austin because it is so convenient to get to the things I want and need. The grocery stores are all around the edge of downtown so driving no more than 10 minutes away from any given point is awesome. I really like the transportation of bikes, scooters, and buses. Something that I would like to see change though is the fact that it is really hard to find a place to live that is not so expensive.
