Los Alamos County
1 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in New Mexico
Nearby Resident: I attend school at Los Alamos and I find it very refreshing up there in the mountain. There are a number of things to do in the area. I utilize the library, for movies and books; Smith's grocery store, has a Starbucks and sushi ; Supercuts for my kids haircuts; and Ashley Pond.
If there would be an improvement in the area I would like to see a Taco Bell. When I am at school there isn't a local place to eat when you just want something affordable. A local catering company has recently been housed on campus but the price for coffee, pastries or meal is too high for most students on a budget. When I have class all day and one right after another I need something in walking distance, quick, and affordable.
I enjoy the city. I live in San Ildefonso Pueblo down the hill from the town and it's nice to experience what the city has to offer. It is a twenty minute drive from home and with two kids it's great that it's close and I can get a lot done.

Current Resident: The most striking thing about Howard is how there is so much to do all the time for anyone! The number of activities for all age groups is staggering, so the area is great for children. Also, the diversity within Howard is exceptional, so it's easy to find a connection with a special group of people. Finally, the schools are also amazing from elementary to higher education, providing students with ample opportunities to learn and grow.

- County in Georgia
Current Resident: There are many many opportunities to get involved in the community. I have interacted with well over 50 local businesses, helped non-profits, and utilized the school's abundance of options. If myself as a senior in Highschool can be this involved, imagine what you, as a prospective business owner/homeowner/parent, can do!

5 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Tennessee
Niche User: The crime safety is almost too good. The police departments are huge. Chattanooga has twice the population of Franklin, but Franklin has more police officers! This is partly because Williamson County is the 13th wealthiest county in the entire nation. The sweet southern town has a good heart, but is a bit too strict. Don't speed or you will get a ticket, don't be driving around at 2 am or you will be pulled over and a suspect of DUI. This strict authority is necessary for keeping the streets as clean as they are.

- County in Kansas
Current Resident: I truly have enjoyed living in Johnson county. The roads are always well lit, the streets are always clean, and the crime rates are low. Compared to my temporary residence for college, Topeka, Johnson county gets a hundred stars. I also truly loved the school system, which is ranked pretty high. Overall, Johnson county is a great place to live and one in which I hope to make my future home after graduation.

8 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Virginia
Current Resident: Loudoun is known mostly for its historic buildings. You can notice the changing of colors in the leaves in every season. Surrounded by so many types of trees, so many types of wild animals, it is one of the best places to live!

9 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Ohio
Current Resident: My overall experience of Delaware, Ohio is a pretty good one. I have lived in this county for almost 13 years now, and I would not want to move! I love where my house is at because I do not believe that I have ever seen a prettier sunset. Also, the people are great here. They are friendly enough to talk to you if you want someone to talk to, but they do not care to get all up in your business.
However, I would like to the the roads fixed up. There are cracks and other things, like trash on the sides of the roads, that just make everything look bummy.

10 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Minnesota
Current Resident: My family moved here over twenty years ago, back when it was nearly all farmland! As the years went by, and as it became more and more urbanized, it has become a major place to live within Minnesota. Something new is always being built, yet it still has the surrounding towns have the "small town" feel to them. Although it is becoming very expensive to live there, Carver County is full of future potential for both domestic and industrial atmospheres!

12 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Virginia
Current Resident: There are a number of wonderful historical sites throughout the county. Yorktown battlefields are scattered along the beach and nearby area. Being located close to Williamsburg and Jamestown, which both have museums and maintained historical sites open to the public, York County has a rich past for those interested in the country's story.
York County consists mainly of residential/suburb neighborhoods with various "strip mall" type layout of shops for shopping needs. Public schools are the best in the surrounding area. Cost of living is slightly higher than surrounding area (Hampton, Newport News). There are three high schools for the county: York, Tabb and Grafton. I personally have attended Tabb and Grafton.
Growing up with a parent in the Armed Services, I've seen my share of other school systems in the U.S. and York County has by far been my favorite.

- County in Virginia
Former Resident: Fairfax, VA is clean, safe, diverse, plenty of non-parallel parking, clean public parks and services, abundance of public bus transportations. One recommendation: less honking on the road and be more calm and connect with neighbors more through public events and fundraisers would be both rewarding and wonderful!

17 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Virginia
Niche User: The school system is very good, and the apartments are quiet and peaceful. I have not had any problems with any neighbors. There are many good universities in Virginia, and in my area is near the University of Virginia. The problems in this include a rapid increase in residents, which has led to a high need of housing and problems with traffic. There have been renovations in shopping centers, including the addition of the Stonefield Shopping center, which leads to more jobs and shops, but is controversial in terms of environmental destruction. Overall, this area needs improvement in the managing of resident size and traffic, and there will be more construction in the future. But there is a vast amount of history and a lot of different small owned businesses, as well as a downtown center that is only a drive away that make up for the high population.

18 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Maryland
Current Resident: I live in Montgomery County, MD. I like the area but I feel like it is a very expensive place to live on your own and are making at least 50,000 or more a year and you want to buy your own house. The cost of living in this county is expensive but if you work hard you should live comfortably. This county has excellent public and private schools, very well safety, family friendly, the diversity is widespread. There are definitely a lot of job opportunities. There is a lot of activities you can do here for kids and adults.

19 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Wisconsin
Current Resident: Waukesha County is an exciting mix of bustling cities, friendly suburbs, and rural landscapes, tucked next door to Milwaukee and just a few hours north of Chicago and south of Green Bay and Appleton. Waukesha County blends metropolitan sophistication with natural beauty and rich history, making it a destination that’s an escape from the ordinary. Beautiful driving area, pleasant people, and yummy food. Fun facts: Over the years, many believed, incorrectly, that the origin of the name of the city was an Algonquian word meaning "fox" or "little foxes".

20 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Georgia
Current Resident: Fayetteville is a great town that offers a lot of excitementMy parents had five kids, including me, and we moved to Fayetteville specifically for the school system. It is lacking in the department of things to do, especially for teenagers and young adults. Luckily, the exciting city of Atlanta is less than 45 minutes away. The weather is usually really nice and there are a lot of sport opportunities like soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and swimming teams right inside the town. It's a great town to move to if you have kids or plan on having kids. Although it is a little dull for teenagers, whether its hanging out at Chick-Fil-A or skating at Dazzles, we always manage to find something to do!

21 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Michigan
Niche User: It's a very nice area with caring people and good opportunities. It is in it's own area so you aren't in a crowded city, but just a short drive can get you to a different atmosphere. I think that this community is becoming more liberal and I believe it will become more accepting of change over the years. I would definitely live here again and would rate this a 4/5.

Former Resident: Love how overall clean it is. There are many businesses as well as safe, nice private homes. The school systems are great and one of the nicest YMCA's, park systems, and historic sites are found in this county. It is also easily accessible to the major metropolis area of Philadelphia. I highly recommend this area for anyone who is looking for a nice place to raise a family or to just retire.
