#1 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Georgia
- Rating 4.05 out of 5 21 reviews
Current Resident: We moved here from Gwinnett County in Metro Atlanta three years ago and the quality of life is much better in many ways. The county has plenty of parks and green spaces and includes Lake Lanier and the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. The schools are the best in Georgia and the county is much safer than Atlanta. The people have also been extremely welcoming. Medical facilities, plenty of shopping and diverse restaurant options are readily available. They are in the process of building an amphitheater near the square in Cumming and there are NoFo and Cherry Street microbreweries. I'm glad we purchased when we did as home values are escalating fairly dramatically. As I no longer have to commute to Atlanta, the major drawback has been a non-factor. We love it!

Current Resident: There are many many opportunities to get involved in the community. I have interacted with well over 50 local businesses, helped non-profits, and utilized the school's abundance of options. If myself as a senior in Highschool can be this involved, imagine what you, as a prospective business owner/homeowner/parent, can do!

#3 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Maryland
- Rating 4.02 out of 5 115 reviews
Current Resident: Having one of the best schools in the state, Howard county is more expensive than other counties, however, that’s one of the selling points of this county. I would not consider moving out to any other county! Even going to different counties I always notice how different the vibe is, and overall how different the people are from Howard county residents. It feels safe here, even in the relatively shadier places I still know I’m safe. The police are highly active and alert, ready to go at any moment. Overall, this is definitely the best place for a family to live in, and that’s coming from someone who is not from this country!

#6 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Indiana
- Rating 4.83 out of 5 6 reviews
Current Resident: I have lived in numerous places all over Indiana and Noblsesville, Carmel, Westfield, and Fishers is the place to be. Great leisurely activities abound, peaceful and scenic settings, plenty of great places to eat. Hamilton County also offers some of the best fishing in the state with Geist and Morse Reservoirs that are top trophy bass lakes. 5-8 lb bass are common with occasional fish pushing 10lbs. If big bodies of water arent your thing then there are hundreds upon hundreds of ponds that also produce big bass and other species of fish. Visit downtowns of the cities mentioned above and experience shopping oppurtinities for all with amazing views and meeting great people. If you like the bar scene all cities offer wonderful and laid back nightlife too. All in all Hamilton County is awesome! Come visit soon!

Los Alamos County
#7 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in New Mexico
- Rating 4.11 out of 5 9 reviews
Current Resident: While being a safe environment, there are many things that make up Los Alamos. Such as, all the different events that happen throughout the year. During the summer there is the Gordon concerts, craft fair, science festival, farmers market, etc. During the winter there is meeting santa, ice skating, skiing, etc. Many companies help put on different events so there is always something to do. With all the different activities, it is very safe. There is very little criminal action. The schools have a wide variety of programs and there are many amazing teachers. Though Los Alamos is great, its not perfect. Many students have experienced a depression/anxiety because of the high expectations. Like every school, there are amazing teachers and "not the best" teachers. All the classes are reasonable, but it is the "not the best" teachers that make the classes tough. Overall, it is an amazing town that is safe and is keeps you on your toes.

#8 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Kansas
- Rating 4.45 out of 5 20 reviews
Current Resident: My experience growing up in the Johnson County area has left a pretty positive impact on what I could accomplish and become inspired by. Whether it was community service, compromising, and many other ways people in the community can be helped out. It's overall a mostly liberal place, yet some people are still pretty conservative. The public schools here are also really great at getting everyone involved in wanting what's best for each person living here. A lot of the school teachers here are amazing at there and it's easy to tell they loving being teachers and deserve higher paychecks. Everyone is mostly pretty polite to each other without creating tension or getting into arguments or fights. It's also extremely safe here considering in this part of Kansas, public safety is taken very seriously. There is also a huge diversity of ethnic backgrounds from all over the world and considering it's one the most affordable parts of the country to live in makes it a bonus for real estate.

#10 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Maryland
- Rating 3.78 out of 5 123 reviews
Current Resident: Montgomery County is a really unique place in Maryland and I would say the United States in general. Coming from a foreign country, I can for sure say that county members were very friendly and welcoming to me and my family. Along with amazing people, the county has a lot of diversity with many residents coming from all over the world. The county is unique because it is so close to DC that Its easy to take a day trip and explore the nations capitol. Also, as a student, the schooling here is very beneficial. The school system is one of the best in the United States. The only downside about the schooling system here is how rigorous and competitive it can be but overall I really loved my moco experience.

Current Resident: I moved a year ago to Montgomery county and I like it a lot. There are a lot of public transportations which makes moving around a lot easier. I feel somewhat safe in this neighborhood. I work nearby and enjoy the fact that things are not far away from each other. There are a lot of variety of grocery shopping types. There is giant, acme, Whole Foods... many different shopping places too such as mall and boutiques. Nightlife is all right because there are several restaurants that are open late and beautiful small pubs and bars to go to. It is somewhat quite at night and safe. The county is kept pretty and clean. Lots of green areas and very dog friendly. Many habitations are houses that are expensive but beautiful m. There are some affordable apartments to live in that accept animals so that makes it easy if you have a pet. There are several job opportunities with decent pay. #21 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Minnesota
- Rating 3.92 out of 5 13 reviews
Current Resident: It is a great place to live! Within walking distance of many different activities. The one thing I do not like is the snow emergency system. I was under the impression that cars would be towed if they were parked on the wrong streets for certain days. However, I have only seen them plow around those cars leaving a mess where the cars were parked. Also, when they plow the main streets that first day of the emergency they tend to block off my side street with a wall of snow. Very inconvenient since those are the only streets we are supposed to park on that first day.

#22 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Virginia
- Rating 3.86 out of 5 220 reviews
Current Resident: York County is home to the Colonial National Historic Park, where the 1781 Siege of Yorktown took place. The best thing about the county, besides its historical significance, is that its ~65,000 residents benefit from the perks of living in a "small town" area (low crime, safe, family friendly, gorgeous woodlands) yet enjoy "city life" attractions, including a movie theater, an ice rink, a bowling alley, museums, and a beach with a boardwalk. Also, York County is bordered by the cities of Newport News, which is home to the Patrick Henry Mall, and Williamsburg, which is home to the Busch Gardens amusement park and the Water Country USA water park. Another great thing is that the area is unusually diverse for a small southern county. The political demographic is moderate, but leans to the right. Lastly, the schools in York County are terrific. The high schools all offer a full range of AP courses as well as the IB Diploma Program.

#23 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in New York
- Rating 3.94 out of 5 16 reviews
Current Resident: Nassau county is very diverse overall. I've lived here almost all my life with a span of about 2 decades. The real-estate market is extremely high right now during the covid-19 pandemic and many, many houses in Nassau County are being bought above appraised value. It's a great time to be selling, but a little more difficult buying since the prices are higher.

#24 Best Counties for Families in America
- County in Ohio
- Rating 4.41 out of 5 56 reviews
Current Resident: Amazing downtown, rich history, and close community! There is always something to do in Delaware. On the first Friday of each month, the downtown streets are blocked from traffic and flooded with people. Businesses can advertise while locals get snacks and catch up with old friends. The Main Street Delaware organization updates all who are interested in current events. Almost all downtown businesses are original, not chain. This adds to Delaware's charm.
