Current Resident: I moved to Portland from California 3 years ago. Here's my Pro's and Con's list.
Pros of Portland:
Lots of restaurants and bars: great for Yelpers!
Pretty clean: most residents care about the environment
Downtown (The NW part of downtown and The Pearl): It's very fun spending time in this area of the city
Hiking: I can take a 10 minute drive from my house to get to some nice hiking trails
The People: The positive is that they stick to themselves and are pretty polite
Taxes: No Sales Tax! Yay!
Cons of Portland:
Housing: It's getting expensive. The avg home costs between $425k-450k...kinda pricey. Also, property taxes are expensive here.
The People: Too many liberals! No one in Portland respects conservatives unfortunately. Group think among young adults is rampant.
The Homeless: Taxes to support homelessness were passed 4 times in the past 5 years yet it's still a MAJOR issue.
Traffic: Its getting pretty bad
Nightlife: None...what nightlife?
