Nobody will ever truly understand the meaning behind “Everybody dies famous in a small town” from a song by Miranda Lambert unless they live in one. Living in a small, rural community means that anybody can match a face to a name, the biggest traffic jams are usually caused by a tractor on the road, having to explain where you live to non-locals by saying “west of Albany”, and most of the population knows your business before you even do. Although teens say, “I can’t wait to get out of here,” there’s no doubt they’re going to miss growing up seeing the same faces in the hallway for thirteen years, or the same people in the local Stewart’s every evening. The only thing I'd like to see change about Schoharie is the re-opening of businesses. Ever since Tropical Storm Irene hit and flooded Schoharie in 2011, many businesses have been abandoned. Reopening the businesses could help save Schoharie's economy.

Cute, small town. Everyone knows each other, and it is a friendly environment. I have grown up here my whole life, attended school here since pre-k, and made all of my memories and friends growing up here. My family has always lived in Schoharie, and my parents, as well as grandparents were also from Schoharie.
Having lived here all my life its an okay place to grow up but it is really only a steeping stone. It is a small isolated town with limited resources and opportunities for personal growth and success.
