Sauk Village is a very small and diverse place with limited resources. The Public Schools are hit or miss for the most part with many residents preferring the early education of Wagoner school vs the following grade schools and middle schools. Their is also the safety concerns that have been voiced for the past 10 years. The amount of criminal activity keeps many people away from communicating, participating and staying in Sauk Village. There is a constant cycle of new people coming staying for 1-2 years then leaving after realizing the situation. There are some community programs for the youth but overall the location is not very family friendly. There are various daycares next to liquor stores and gambling places if you are into that sort of thing. The housing is affordable with a lot of people choosing to rent out the homes while they live somewhere else. The commute time is very short, you can get to anywhere in Sauk Village within 5-10 minutes. Scarce amount of job opportunities.
I have lived here for the last 14 years, I love my home, my family's space. Although I spend most of my time in Chicago I wouldn't trade this little town for anything.
The multiple issues within Sauk Village make it nearly impossible to keep a resident for more than a few years. Every year, the town finds a way to tax residents on the inevitable to rake in a few bucks for themselves, because it certainly doesn't go into improving the town. The local schools never close when the weather is deadly, the water is unsafe to drink yet the bill rounds to $200, curfews are not strictly enforced, and the houses are built with the cheapest materials at hand. "It takes a village to raise a child," but be sure it isn't Sauk Village.
