It is far away from all shopping. The only grocery store is Food Lion. The schools are not top rated and the elementary school my children attend leave little to be desired. Not much diversity, possibly due to how close we are to New Kent.
I like the small town feel of sandston and having close relationships with local business owners. Very cute place.
I live just on the border of Sandston city limits. This area is very rural and quiet for small town folks. Just inside the town, you have more of an urban life, closer neighbors, shopping centers, grocery store, etc. If I want more urban life qualities just 10 minutes from Sandston is Richmond, VA. Or if I want to go somewhere a little more colonial, just a 30 minute drive in the other direction is Williamsburg. So I can get the urban life I want without living in it. I can still enjoy hearing the insects loudly at night through my window and not have the glare from city lights coming through keeping me awake.
I have lived in Sandston for 9 years I love the environment and the people . I have lived in different areas near back and do not feel as safe .
For the most part, the safety is very good in the area. Though, people are still harmed, the police do their best to protect the area.
There is vandalism, but the police are very present.
I see some growth in the future and great neighbors.
This townhouse is pretty nice. The neighborhood is only a few minutes away from a shopping center, gas stations and nice places to eat.
If you love a small town, you'd love it here. It isn't so small that there isn't a mall as White Oak Village is nearby and has many brand stores to shop from. The middle and primary schools are great, the high schools not so much. They have been renovating the high schools and their quality is going up though, so there is a hopeful future for that. Many restaurants nearby and quite a few locally owned spots that are great to eat at. There isn't much crime as long as you don't live in an over-populated apartment area. The people are generally nice and are very accepting especially at the nearby churches. I love it here and would not have chosen to grow up anywhere else given the choice.
