I would say one of my main priorities when looking for a location to live is how safe the area/neighborhoods are. I would definitely vouch for San Ramon not only being extremely safe feeling but also extremely clean kept and beautiful. The city is sourrounded by beautiful hills and red wood trees that make you have a nice Northern California feel to it. I grew up in Pleasanton a few towns down and about 15 minutes away, and I would say it is pretty similar to Pleasanton just missing a cute downtown area to walk around. That is one thing I would change, adding a downtown or something similar. Thats not to say we aren't surrounded by many establishments because there are a good amount of shopping centers to enjoy with food, grocery stores, select department stores and even an outdoor mall. Another thing I would choose to change if I had the power, would be the extremely high and ridiculous prices. And I'm not only talking prices for living situations but for the local spots and stores.
Being a San Ramon resident since 2008, my living experience has been great. My family and I moved to San Ramon from Tracy after living with relatives after arriving in the United States from the Philippines. Living in this city for some time now, I have seen change, development, and growth that the city aspires to be. With its new housing being built around the city for new residents and the somewhat new shopping mall, "City Center Bishop Ranch", the city is still unique compared to how it was when I first moved here.
I've lived here in San Ramon since 1995. My wife and I raised our children here after moving from Vallejo. The school system was great at the time and children have all graduated from Cal High and moved on to higher learning and adulthood.
Crime was nearly non-existent when we moved here, but the new Next Door app indicates that there is more crime than meets the eye. Petty theft, car break ins and package theft are now commonplace. People will even steal your DoorDash and Grubhub food drop-off. Shame on people.
Jobs? There is Bishop Ranch where many businesses flourish. Chevron, Bank of the West, 24 Hour Fitness, Toyota and more. Not everyone will find a job here and so that makes San Ramon a sort of "bedroom community" where residents have to commute to work.
Housing: Once upon a time, you could buy a house on the cheap if you bought long ago, think 1990's and then the recession. That no longer exists and housing is EXPENSIVE! My home increased $1,000,000.
Love it!
