I've lived here in San Ramon since 1995. My wife and I raised our children here after moving from Vallejo. The school system was great at the time and children have all graduated from Cal High and moved on to higher learning and adulthood.
Crime was nearly non-existent when we moved here, but the new Next Door app indicates that there is more crime than meets the eye. Petty theft, car break ins and package theft are now commonplace. People will even steal your DoorDash and Grubhub food drop-off. Shame on people.
Jobs? There is Bishop Ranch where many businesses flourish. Chevron, Bank of the West, 24 Hour Fitness, Toyota and more. Not everyone will find a job here and so that makes San Ramon a sort of "bedroom community" where residents have to commute to work.
Housing: Once upon a time, you could buy a house on the cheap if you bought long ago, think 1990's and then the recession. That no longer exists and housing is EXPENSIVE! My home increased $1,000,000.
Love it!

San Ramon is a beautiful city with a wonderful community. It is one of the safest areas in the San Francisco Bay Area. There are also many public schools to select from; the ones I attended were very nice. There are many things to do in San Ramon, like explore the City Center, which is essentially a mall complex with a theater, delicious restaurants, and a farmers market on the weekends!
Good city. Very residential-oriented. There isn't much of a downtown, just the new City Center and the surrounding commercial complex. There are two areas: New San Ramon and Old San Ramon. These two areas are divided by the highway. Old San Ramon has, as the name suggests, older homes and was developed long before New San Ramon (which has newer homes and living communities). The environment is school-oriented, as the area has 2 really good schools (Dougherty Valley and California High). It's a scenic city in the spring when the hills are green. Great place to live, is a bit expensive, but not as much as other parts of the Bay Area like Cupertino, CA.
