My experience with San Juan has brought a series of opinions. The public education system is capsizing. San Juan holds the largest number of public schools. Political corruption has lead for education reform to be last. Few schools function with twenty first century trends. One of the few schools that matches trends is Visual Arts Central High with programs in arts, STEM, and humanities. Nightlife in San Juan is average. Bars and clubs are just variations of each other with different fees. Quality real estate in San Juan is becoming more accesible to the wealthy. Construction of high class condos raises rent in average areas. Everyone drives a personal vehicle.Traffic is heavy with lack of a successful public transportation system. Crime is heavy due to an underfunded police force. The few family parks are the only family friendly areas.

San Juan was an excellent city when I was a child. I had the chance to share an exceptional experience as the beautiful beaches provided the perfect growing space. Also, the rich Puerto Rican culture and endless activities offered by the island make sure you have a fun time. There exists a perfect balance between nature and city life. I did not get the chance of getting educated in the public system, but the level of poverty that exists makes it clear there are not many good options. There is thus a great social gap and half the country lives in extreme humbleness. Even so, for tourism and middle-high class living it is one of the most beautiful islands and life can be exceptional. I had an amazing taste of freedom, even from a young age, and had the chance to discover remarkable experiences such as catamaran cruising, water parks, sailing, windsurfing, soccer, hiking, beachside biking, and gastronomical discovery.
I have lived in San Juan for many years and it has everything you may need! Schools (both public and private), great tourism, a huge medical center, restaurants, shopping malls, government central offices - you name it! I’ve been born and raised in this city and have loved every second of it because everything is so close and accesible.
