San Joaquin is avery small town near Kerman, CA. The population is about 4,000 people and the majority of the population is Mexican. I grew up here and I am currently still living here. I have lived in town of San Joaquin where I had caring and loving neighbors. The town itself is surrounded by fields. It is small enough to walk from one side of town to the other in about 10-15 minutes. I have never had any problems here nor a bad experience. This little town is what I call home. Within our community I would like to see a change in our participation. They hardly let other people who are not on the board to have a say in anything. Some people are in the School Board are not even from San Joaquin. Others say the district has good school, but they do not even send their own kids here. They just sugarcoat it and we need people on the Board who actually know what is going on and not only seeing what they are being told. Our school system is messed up and they need to change it.

I’ve lived in San Joaquin my whole life so it has a special part in my heart that cannot be changed. I really enjoy it here since it’s a small place and most of the people you’d recognize when you are going grocery shopping. Even though this is my hometown there needs to be changes done. There are a lot of kids who abuse substances because of their difficult lives and even then they still do it for their own “enjoyment”. Not only do the young abuse this but also a lot of adults. In my street there is always a time where the streets smell like smoke or marijuana, it really irritates me and it makes me want to move out as quickly as possible. But why does a person who loves her hometown have to move because other people abusing these substances, it’s really not fair. I want change because of this, I want to go outside not worrying that the foul smell of smoke or marijuana will linger through the streets.
Overall, it is a peaceful town, but there is a lack of opportunities and there are not many big stores here. I would like to see more opportunities for all the students that live here, so there could be more sports and entertainment so teenagers and kids do not go into the wrong paths.
