I have lived in Ruston, Louisiana for the majority of my adult life. It is a quiet town that is great for raising children, other than the fact that there isn't a wide array of entertainment options. The stores in the area are, for the most part, clean. The city has a wide variety of restaurants, from small holes in the wall to large chain venues. The overall atmosphere is pleasant. I plan on staying here once I am finished with school to continue raising my son. The schools themselves are decent, and have plenty of activities for the kids. The only downside is there isn't a whole lot going on here at any point in time. Unless you are going to a sporting event or a small bar you have to make your own fun.
Review Ruston
Ruston is a small, rustic town that thrives from the students at Louisiana Tech University. Although this is a sweet town filled with southern hospitality, there is a side of town that most Caucasians try to avoid. This is not due to racism but rather that the side of town where most African Americans reside is filled with a higher crime rate including shooting and drug problems. However, because we are striving so hard to be what is considered politically correct, these people don't feel the entitlement to do whatever they please. If this trend continues, I am not sure how long my small town will survive.
Ruston is a small town with tons of character! There are plenty of nice people and place to eat and shop! The Louisiana Tech campus is absolutely beautiful and causes minimal disturbances to other Ruston natives.
