Roseburg is a small town of about 21,000 people. Its largest industry is lumber, but due to its mediterranean climate and growing vineyards and wineries, the Umpqua Valley region is quickly becoming the next Napa Valley. Roseburg also offers a lot of natural diversity with beautiful landscapes and wilderness, but unfortunately there is not a lot of racial diversity among its inhabitants. Roseburg's demographic consists of about 90% Whites, 5% Hispanics, 1% Blacks, and a remaining 4% of varying ethnic backgrounds, such as Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander and other races. Though Roseburg offers clean air and water, a multitude of outdoor recreational opportunities, and a short commute time, it has few employment prospects, very little cultural diversity, and one of the highest property crime rates of the state.

While being quite small and rural, Roseburg possesses natural beauty rivaled by few other towns. Minutes away from countless waterfalls, rugged mountains, and thick evergreen forests, Roseburg is enveloped in pure, unadulterated beauty. The Umpqua Valley, which Roseburg is located in, is also quickly gaining a worldwide reputation for its wineries. The only downside that may be found sources from its greatest strength. Being a small town, Roseburg lacks a widespread array of businesses and industry. Often people avoid this town because they prefer the bigger cities that have more stores and opportunities. I however cherish the "small town" nature of Roseburg because our people are as family and because of this, we can overcome anything.
Like many places in OR and Pacific Northwest there is an epic battle against meth. For the most part Roseburg is winning. Young folk at the College are a pleasant moderating influence on the community. There is that visible portion of the youth with drug (meth) problems, but for the most part the kids are pretty stoic about living here with moss on the sidewalk in summer and nothing much to do at night except the occasional howling at the moon. Actually, it a good place for teenagers because for the most part everybody allows them to raise some hell without making a federal case of it. Mostly calm and mellow people. Quite a few retired people move here from CA or other places, and it helps make the place not seem so small town.
