My Family has lived in Rome GA, since the 1840's. It's a great place to live, with Parks, recreation, and many Churches of all Denominations. In the last 20 years, or so, there has been a steady influx of outsiders, with the accompanying crime. That's not good, along with the drugs, but still a great, and beautiful place. Berry College, Downtown, the Parks etc. add to the ambience. Overall, a great place to live!
The downtown is amazing and active. I love the restaurants and bars. The local arts, culture, and festival scene is fantastic in the fall. Plenty of lovely local walks between the riverwalk that starts by the baseball field and meanders downtown, to Berry College's campus, to a few local state parks less than a half hour away. It's a beautiful small town and I'm so happy I've gotten to experience living there!
So far, I’ve lived near Rome in Cave Spring for about a year. There are a couple of nice restaurants and some pretty scenery. That’s about where the good stops. There is rampant meth usage, worse than average, there are people who just let their dogs wander wherever they want, so lots of dead dogs on the roads. I’ve heard a ton of racist remarks and there are a ton of Trump people here. I would love to get the heck out of here asap.
