Rocky River as a city overall is fairly nice. Neighborhoods are clean, safer than nearly any other suburb around, and accessibility to restaurants, shops, and commercial areas is abundant. My problems with Rocky River start at the school. While the school itself and the the staff are for the most part, inclusive, kind and helpful, and teachers are all very good at what they do, the students themselves can be harsh. Racism and homophobia is pretty strong here and kids are extremely cliquey, so if you aren't what they see as normal, people will talk about you behind your back constantly, and they will treat you as if you were stupid. Everyone thinks they're better than you, and the students are, to be blunt, extremely immature. While the city is fantastic and I appreciate my school, do note that young folks, especially non white students and LGBTQ+ students, may have a harsher environment than first anticipated.
My childhood was shaped by Rocky River and it's an ideal place for children. I went to a Catholic grade school and currently am in a Catholic high school which has helped me develop my faith. It's provided me with great educational opportunities! The diversity is low and could easily be improved, but it is getting a little better. There is a lot to do for such a small town which makes it a fun place to live!
I have lived in Rocky River my entire life and it has been a wonderful place to grow up. The city has always felt incredibly safe, I grew up with tons of kids on my street to play with, and my education at the schools has been great.
The only downside I can think of is the lack of diversity in the community. It is very noticable that the city is very white, and the student body at the schools reflects that. It's not uncommon for there to be no people of color in my classes, and only 1 or 2 in some other classes. There is also not much socioeconomic diversity. Overall all my peers seem to have grown up in mostly upper middle class families, so everyone is pretty well off.
