I recently moved to Riverside. I live in the Mission Grove area, which is full of clean well kept homes. There doesn't seem to be much crime in this area. It is close to shopping, grocery stores, and just a few minutes from the freeway. Overall I would say it is positive. There are always areas to improve. The city doesn't come and street sweep on the right day, silly things like that for instance.
Riverside is a very large city in comparison with my hometown. The downtown area has lots of nice restaurants, and a cute vintage vibe. I have been to some areas here that are in need of help from the more affluent in the community. I have no personal experience with the school system or law enforcement. I am unable to offer a personal opinion on either. However, this is my partners hometown, and he has nothing but good to say! It has been a good time so far!

I lived in Riverside back in the late 80's when I was a kid, moved to OC and now I've been back for a few years now. The city has obviously changed so much since the 80's. I love that Downtown is very artsy and it has a couple of nice restaurants as well as other small businesses and cute little boutiques with amazing finds. The mall is nice and well kept. Population is very diverse which I like, there are a few college's here as well. Some parts of Riverside are very old with amazing houses, I love the old small town feeling of those neighborhoods...specially the houses around RCC on Magnolia and the Victoria neighborhood. Also, if you think fancy grocery stores are only for OC or LA not true....Ralph's fresh fare are usually in affluent areas and there is one in Riverside, granted is in Canyon Crest area close to Benedict's castle but there is one here! Also Trader Joe's at the Riverside plaza.
I love the neighborhoods because everyone knows everyone and we are all friends! Similar to the schools, all the students might live close by, without knowing, and can easily hang out. There are different areas for friends to hang out, like the movies and there are many food places nearby! The traffic may be a lot sometimes due to the different times, for example, during the afternoon. Mid day is by far the worst time to be out because of everyone trying to leave work or pick up their kids, but traffic is terrible and can take up to 2 hours. Night life is amazing because of the beautiful lights and the freedom of going out with friends or family. I have personally loved going out with friends around 8 or 9 because of the weather, as well. The wind is a cool breeze and feeling the wind after watching a great movie is by far my favorite feeling!
