Rio Vista Reviews
Rio Vista, for us, was a very depressing experience. Lost in time, like the "Twilight Zone". Endless stream of 18 wheelers rumble through the town on the narrow, undivided, potholed and dangerous rural roads that lead to this place. The feeling is run-down. Few people seen on streets, and the stores are either barely alive or dead entirely. A couple of good eating spots on Highway 12 as it passes thru town: the Mexican place and the independent burger stand...but that's it. Nothing much to recommend this place other than cheap housing relative to the Bay Area and the "Redneck Riviera" delta itself. Just one "supermarket". ..uh, cough, cough. Nightlife/ culture is nil for civilized folks. We toughed it out here for several years and finally bailed out and relocated back to the North Bay area for want of Life. Shopping/hospitals are a LONG drive away on dangerous "blood alley" roads that are especially so at night. SO glad we are GONE from here!
I have lived in Rio Vista my entire life. It is a very small and quiet town, but it is great place to grow up in. Growing up in small town has allowed me to get to know my peers very personally. But, being a small town comes with its downsides. For example, there isn't much to do for a teenager, they cater mostly to the elderly community. We have skate park, but I do not skate. I would love to see small shopping center developed because it would provide kids with something to do after school, as well as giving out more jobs to the students than just a grocery store and fast food restaraunts.
As a Bay Area transplant, I find the small-town persona to be refreshing. Rio Vista is the kind of place where you wave at the cars you pass, you know your neighbors, and you can let your kids have more freedom. Rio Vista is located right on the Sacramento River in the California Delta, one of the most beautiful and interesting places in California. Rio Vista is a sweet slice of American Pie.
