Crime & Safety
Ridgefield is a quiet, safe neighborhood. While attending school all my life living here, I found the education system to be average. Teachers were kind and stood after school for extra curricular activities and extra help in some subjects. Unfortunately there is no real nightlife, however Ridgefield is close to other towns like Palisades Park, Edgewater and Fortlee. One nice aspect of the town is during the summer the town provides highschool students jobs counseling campers in day to day activity as well as the opportunity to become a certified life guard.
I may not find every store necessary directly in town. But everything I want and need are very near by in surrounding towns. It is a very convenient location. Especially being in Bergen county and having the blue tag law, my neighboring county is Hudson therefore no need to travel far if I need to go clothes shopping on a Sunday and NYC is few minutes away. My neighborhood is very quiet not necessarily close knit neighborly area where everyone knows everyone but for the most part people keep to themselves and don't cause problems. To rent in the area is pretty pricey but I somehow like a needle in a haystack found an amazing deal! I wouldn't mind staying in Ridgefield permanently.
Overall I like my town. It is safe, people are generally friendly and everyone looks out for one another. What I don't like; however, is that some of the services could be better. For example, our Department of Public Works is unreliable. Every time it snows, they never salt the roads. They plow the streets, carry salt in the back of the trucks but for some reason, don't salt the streets. This actually caused me to have a car accident this past Saturday as I was driving down a hill and slid on the ice directly into a parked car. This is totally unnecessary as there are two salt sheds full of salt, my parents are paying $16000 in taxes on their house, and we are inconvenienced.
