Richland Center is a small town. It is made up mostly of churches, banks, bars and funeral homes. I would believe it to be a great place for retirement. There isn't a hole lot of things to do for kids or teenagers. I wish Richland Center would invest in something for younger ages that way it would keep them from getting into trouble.

I am currently enrolled in UW-Richland and I love the atmosphere of Richland Center. The college is sort of spaced out from the rest of the town and it almost feels like we're out in the country. Not much to do, but what do you expect from a small town in Wisconsin.
The drugs and crime is not being taken care of. The way people take advantage of welfare is out of control. No one does anything about these situations. People who should be in jail aren't. People who deserve help aren't getting it, like they should. It's really hard for those that do need the help to get it, because of the people that take advantage of it. Granted, this is everywhere, but, it's not good here either. I don't see how our town is one of the best in the state. That actually sickens me. It makes me wonder what the rest of our state is like. Unemployment is high. Especially since 74 people, PLUS a bunch of illegal Mexicans, as well as legal ones were all put out of a job with no notice, because the company filed bankruptcy. The kids are selling drugs in school. The bullying in school is at an all time high. The bullying at jobs are at an all time high. Pay rates are not good. After 22 yrs at the Foundry (which just closed), my husband was only making $15/hr. There are small business owners that really could use help, but, aren't getting it, so, they will end up closing their doors. Those are the ones that need the most support, the most help. A little girl ended up dying because her babysitter was too worried about getting high, rather than watching her, and she along with a couple friends went to the Wisconsin River. She fell in, and drowned. Babysitter isn't in jail. That's all the Bad....That's what makes this Town NOT deserve a B....

Now...What brings up the rating. There are a LOT of good people in this town as well. When those 74 people lost their jobs at the Foundry, the community banned together and raised money to help the families of those employees. Our family was one of them. Most, AMAZING feeling EVER, to know that your community thinks about you, prays for you, and wants to help your family have a good Christmas. THAT is what makes a community GREAT!
