Rathdrum is a very small town that often gets looked past due to its close proximity to the resort town, Coeur d’Alene. Radiant Lake is the gated community that I live in that is such a great community for families to grow up in! It sits on a man made lake that is well kept during all the seasons. You can paddle board and kayak in the summer, or ice skate and play hockey in the winter! There are three parks within the gated community that has a basketball court, beach volleyball court, and a waterfall. It is also close to downtown Rathdrum which has a wide variety of food and fun pubs to go to. The only problem that some one might see is that there aren’t many fun attractions around. However since it is close to a tourist town, it only takes a quick trip to visit any fun attraction! Rathdrum is close to ski mountains as well such as Schweitzer and Lookout. There are many camp grounds around too! I would definitely recommend a friend to live here.
Rathdrum is such a unique place, it has a great balance between rural and urban. It is a very outdoorsy type of place with tons of great activities. There are all ranges of jobs for a small commute to a nearby city. There is a small population, so everybody is connected to one another. There are many sports opportunities and is a great place for anybody to build a family. This city is being slowly developed to fit the needs of the population and is not an overwhelming urban area. It is pretty safe and quiet and not a place i would ever feel threatened in. It is a low income area so the schools need a lot of help funding wise. Although they do not have all the money they provide a quality education with some of the nicest people around. The food is also incredible and the local shops are great for the community. There are many different types of night time activities or all ages. The real estate market is amazing for those looking for land, dream houses, or a good neighborhoods.
As someone who had lived in this town for 13 years, I have truly learned what it means to be a Rathdrum resident. Considering it is a small town, everyone knows everyone in some way. While this may be beneficial in many aspects, it also means people love to talk and gossip about one another. However, if this is something that does not bother you, then it would not be a problem. Everyone is very friendly and the school system is very organized. The homes are a combination of old buildings built from the early 1900's to modern homes. Rathdrum has a very unique town history that you can learn by simply walking around the older buildings; one of which is an old jailhouse turned into a museum. Overall, you gain a strong sense of a close community within this small town.
